That’s pretty persistent! My boyfriend is a nail biter, I suggested he use the bitter apple stuff, but he said it made everything he touched taste like bitter apple. I tried it and had the same experience. It has to be miserable while you are chewing through it!

Moisturize your cuticles! They itch/crack less, and when they are soft you are less likely to rip them badly when you do bite. There are all kinds of fancy cuticle oils, but I just use flavorless chapstick.

I used to bite my nails when I was younger. I don’t any longer, (although I have never allowed my nails to get more than about 3/8ths of an inch long; also, they split, so I have to trim them frequently).

Solidarity. I just wanted to say that I don’t have long nails, have never had nails long enough to put polish on, and don’t see myself having nails any time soon. And yet... the tortiseshell and marbled turquoise both made me briefly wish for nails.

Jumping in on the nail-biting, getting regular professional manicures sealed the deal on it for me. But I was already in my mid-thirties and chewing them less by then - so basically, that’s just how long it took me. The manicures weren’t the whole cure, though they did help a good deal.

I sucked it up in terms of cost and did gels over and over and over for a few months, keeping them painted when I didn’t have feels, and then began obsessively carrying a tiny manicure set with me at all times. It works, until I decide to clean my purse out and forget to put the set back in, or I leave my bag at home.…

Just a couple strategies, YMMV: My sister used the bitter apple stuff, it helps break the habit, but you have to be vigilant or you fall back into biting your nails. She has trouble with it.
