Ha!

She's cute but, as I said in another thread, Gilpin is the pinnacle of blonde, blue-eyed, skinny-but-stacked prettiness that was prized then.

His look and general vibe perfectly encapsulate that particular 70s mix of art and sleaze that the character calls for.

Shout-out to the makeup/hair and costuming as well. This is peak '80s (I graduated college in '86), but everything seems real rather than the pastiche many '80s projects end up with. Gilpin's hair, makeup, and wardrobe especially. That is exactly the kind of prettiness that was idolized then. Ugh, that awful pastel

I loved that it was a monologue. It leaves it open to interpretation as to how much is true. Great choice, and infinitely the more interesting one.

I agree wholeheartedly. I loved the simplicity, the intimacy, and the mystery of it. Beautifully done.

Interesting. She has always been my favorite.

And I thought it might be just my imagination…

Ah, always such a pleasure when someone hangs around a TV comment section with the sole purpose of trashing the show and its viewers, adding nothing of value to the discussion, isn't it?

And how Judd Apatow gets credit for "discovering" all of the actors in Freaks and Geeks (and credit for the show itself at times) when it was mostly Paul Feig. When you look at their subsequent work it's pretty obvious who was steering F&G.

Perrotta does the underbelly of suburbia like nobody else.

I am also a member of that minority, Matthew. :-)

I commented on this exact scene below. That little "Okay!" broke me.

She was STELLAR and every note was clear and right. Beautifully done.

The scene down by the waterfront with Nora, Laurie, and Matt, OMFG. When Matt said, "People should be with their families, right?' Nora's childlike, hopeful, surprised, happy, "Okay!" absolutely destroyed me. Then the score builds, then Laurie's face as she walks away. Bravo to all three of them, and standing ovation

I have a close friend named Laurie and a coworker named Laurie, and it drives them crazy when people pronounce it like Lori. Two different names, two different pronunciations. Eccleston's/Matt's version is much closer to what it should be if they were supposed to have been raised in upstate NY. I think Carrie Coon is

That scene was fantastic all around. I'd like to see Claire Coffee do a sitcom or romcom next. She has great comedy chops. Sasha Roiz, too!

Oof, yes. Sasha did his best to sell it, but there were quite a few cringe-inducing moments in that arc.

And as a long-time advocate of Roiz's pulchritude (those shoulders, LORDY), it would be hypocritical not to give the ladies their due.

No denying she's a gorgeous young woman, for sure. :-)
