Most drag racing is traditionally a 1/4 mile distance, or 1320 feet. Top Fuel reduced the distance to 1000 feet several years ago for safety reasons.

For top fuelers they don't run a quarter mile (1320 feet) any more as top speeds were getting crazy.  Now they only run 1000 feet.

Racing is a drop in the bucket compared to commuter cars, shipping, airliners, factories, and power plants. The amount of pollution put out by her car in less than 4 seconds is negligible in the grand scheme of things. Lighten up.
