SVU type crimes are to hound you for life, period.

Should Brock Turner be allowed redemption? No. Absolutely not.

I’m okay with serious violent criminals being unable to continue to pursue the same line of work they used to victimize someone. Or at least for a time period longer than a couple of years. Football gave him access, and he proved himself to be unfit to handle that access when he raped that girl. He shouldn’t be able

I can’t say I feel bad that a guy convicted of rape isn’t being allowed to play college football. He was tried as a juvenile, which alone was pretty damn generous, his records will be sealed and won’t show on a basic background check, and he’s been attending college with no problem.

This. Maybe the rape could've been prevented if this school/town didn't create an environment where the boys thought they could get away with this shit. Maybe it still would've happened regardless, but it's hard to feel sorry for these people when they're still making excuses for the boys, still supporting the

The mother of one football player later asked me, “If we were such terrible, football-obsessed people, why would we have clapped?”

Exactly. It goes a long way in explaining why the people of Steubenville think of their football players as demigods. It's been ingrained since early childhood.

You may want to ponder the difference between missing the point and disagreeing with the point. It is not necessary to accept an article's point of view as the gospel truth in order to prove that you understood it.

THANK YOU. I was scouring the comments to see if anyone had brought this up yet. Like, I hope this child's mother knows that she is perpetuating rape culture by allowing her 6 year old daughter to have pictures of a goddamn HIGH SCHOOL football player on her wall, elevating him to some sort of superstar status, simply

DO NOT EVEN GO THERE. are you seriously saying that the murder of Matthew Shepard "destroyed Laramie"? What the holy fuck are you implying, exactly?

The takeaway from this article is that no one in Steubenville learned anything at all about the incident and can't be bothered to feel remorse about it.

Uhhhh nope. No they did not

I'm horrified to hear that there were rape-related insults being yelled at little children. That's absolutely unacceptable. But this whole "Steubenville was destroyed" thing? Not buying it. This will go away eventually.

So, umm, when is the town going to get pissed off at the two boys who are the reason this whole shit show happened in the first place?

"A year later, adults in Steubenville still aren't very interested in having a productive discussion about rape culture. "

Oh, I'm sorry your christmas was RUINED because some broad got raped.

a six-year-old held my hand and showed me the two photos of cute teenage boys on her “big girl” bedroom walls: Justin Bieber and Cody Saltsman.

Neither the victim, the news outlets or Anon "destroyed" the town. What destroyed the town was the "boys will be boys" attitude that was so glaringly apparent when news of the rape first started to come out. The victim blaming, the closing of the ranks all contibuted to people despising the name of Stubenville. Had

If you let your kid have a picture of Cody Saltzman posted on the wall and it isn't on a dartboard, you're a worthless human being.

It takes a village.
