I feel like you totally misread this post. Internalized hate is a very real phenomenon, and the OP is pointing out that Hernandez was more dangerous to himself than others might have been outside of his identity because it was what he feared the most, that judgment of others.

Homosexuality is an innate trait, not a learned behavior or environmental imposition. It is also not a 100%/0% thing, everything has scales of strength when it comes to the human condition. Forcing anyone to be “one” or “the other” is going to be traumatic for the person experiencing it.
