Given that the Cavs are getting exactly ZILCH from Kevin Love this series, who was supposed to be their third best scorer, shot creator, and best offensive and defensive rebounder, I’d say the Harrison Barnes disappearance on the Golden State side evens out to a draw, no? Both teams starting PFs (I think you can

“You can’t call fouls on contact when it’s the offensive player creating the contact or else you completely neuter the defense.”

“You never saw Malone or Rodman crying about hand checks.” Not because they were tough guys, but because the NBA wasn’t calling handchecks in the 90s as league policy. There weren’t ticky tack handcheck fouls to cry about.

Its just the Bernie Sanders whining strategy, taken to basketball.

Klay Thompson *almost* did exactly that last night. I blinked and suddenly it was an 8 point game in crunch time for a bit there. If they had fallen into a slightly shallower hole to begin the night, they could have come back. They were +12 or something in the 2nd quarter for example. No lead is safe with them.

Its also worth pointing out how incredibly dumb (on Curry) most of Curry’s fouls were last night. He went and jabbed his hands into places he had no reason to jab them, out of sheer exasperation mostly, and put the refs in this position where they can either call a ticky-tack, but absolutely accurate foul, and get

Kidd, “not so sure”? What the hell are you smoking? Kidd is a surefire, guaranteed hall of fame player.

Yes, Duncan will be a hall of famer. Manu will almost certainly get inducted too, though in part for his international success in the 04 Olympics. Durant and Westbrook will certainly be hall of famers by the time they retire. If he wins this series, Lebron will then have beaten Curry, who will 100% be a hall of famer

“as good as not better than the warriors”? um, no. The Sonics and Jazz did not set single season wins records, or come anywhere close. The 1990s had some good things going for them in the NBA, sure. But this fetishisazation of the past beyond all reason is just stupid at some point.

No. Game 1 was within one possession right until the end of the 3rd quarter. Cavs had caught up after the half and were right there completely in the game until Delly punched Iggy in the dick, basically, and then the Dubs bench went on a huge run to start the fourth. When that got too big Lue sat Lebron and the other

Mostly this is noise.

Bosh became an excellent defender within Miami’s system with his incredible range and activity even if he didn’t have a reputation as an elite rim protector prior to being in Miami. I don’t think he was a minus on that court at all for them

I had him classified as in the wrong century. I think yes, part of his problem was the players Thomas gave him, that’s indisputable, but I also think part of his problem was that he was taking over at the exact time the NBA was transitioning gradually from 90s grind-it-out being the dominant strategy to pace and space

Yeah. But while totally out of left field, this seems like the first sentient, non-idiot, in the correct century, actually qualified for the job coach they’ve hired in... what... 17 years?

I agree on that last suggestion. If there’s a stoppage in play, and its last 2 minutes, everything should be reviewable. This could be done almost instantaneously if there was a 4th guy in the building who was watching the TV broadcast as it happened.

Given that its often easier to see a lot of little things like this in real time from a monitor than when standing on the court with all these big sweaty men running around obstructing your vision, why not have a 4th ref sitting at the scorer’s table watching the game on TV? He can watch calls in real time and buzz

Where did I say that Simmons was better than Deadspin? I didn’t say that. I said that Deadspin should stop being jealous of him for having more listeners/readers than they do. Didn’t imply any value judgment. Read more closely.

Really deep, insightful commentary there. You really nailed me. Dead to rights.

Where did I say he was better? I said that they’re jealous of him because he’s more successful than they are.

lame joke fail
