I disagree, if you read Lonesome Dove you are guaranteed to regret it. Mainly because you are likely to get fired because you'll skip work to keep reading, and probably get dumped because you'll ignore your significant other to keep reading, and your kids will hate you because you'll neglect them so that you can keep

Lonesome Dove is just so, so good. And it has a great cross-over appeal. My deeply religious brother, who hasn't read much that isn't religious or instructions in years, loved it. Everything about the book is great.
