What’s especially terrible is that the animals and insects mostly responsible for helping with the initial growth and spread of Joshua Trees are all long gone now; there are not going to ever be any new Joshua Trees. What’s there is all there is. People actively damaging and destroying them is just... it enrages me.

Never thought I’d see The Ninth Gate come up on here, but I agree. It’s a fantastic adaptation of a great book, and a really solid film. (I also love how hapless Corso is in it; Johnny Depp spends like, half that film getting the shit kicked out of him.)

God yes @ Drop Dead Gorgeous. God, I love that movie so much.

You want to hear about our specials? We don’t have any.

Yep! Just started using it back in December, love it so far. (Also, very simple visual read receipts, if the other user is also on Signal.)

I think about this so much! It’s such a nuanced, sexy, fantastic, and funny examination of a BDSM relationship between two very damaged people, and it’s so good, but yeah, it would never get made today.

This entire comment is good and correct.

Yeah, the purrito thing works perfectly for me. Any time I need to put anti-flea stuff on Buster’s back, or trim his claws, I just swaddle him. He sometimes gets impatient and makes those funny “car engine revving” annoyed cat sounds, but he doesn’t struggle, he just waits, kind of pissy about it, until I’m done and

Yeah, Kepnes is... not a good writer. I’m not at all surprised her mediocre books make for extremely basic TV.

I just hope they don’t expand to Kepnes’ other books in later seasons. She used a bookshop of mine as “inspiration” for the setting of a big chunk of Hidden Bodies, by which I mean she used our location and visuals, and then made it look like a joke of a horrible place. Honestly, her whole characterization of my

It’s been years since I read Kondo’s book, and I have no intention of watching the show; I was merely replying to the author of this post, who suggests — both by the title, and the closing paragraph — to literally throw books away, which... Yeah, hell no.

Gah! The most tempting trap...

That is also super cute!! I got the “activation noise” a couple years back from a Vine somebody compiled of waking their own cat up from naps several times and making it. The cutest noise!

You would be most welcome! He is determined to charm everyone he meets.

The Eve Babitz bio I was alluding to up there? Definitely do, especially if you’re a fan of her work! It’s quite illuminating, about her and her work, since the two are perpetually entwined.

Thank you, on both points!

Ha! I think I know the exact cafe you mean (though I’m not a New Yorker, I just know that movie better than I probably should...). I met Tucci briefly when my former shop did an event with him for his cookbook some years back, and he was just lovely.

That’s very cool!

It does! Very good detective work! (It wouldn’t hurt to drop the book title directly, but something kept me from doing it, I’m not even sure why, lol. Didn’t want to brag or anything, I’m just excited! Also, her subject is one of my all-time favorite writers, particularly about LA.)

Thank you! Stella had a bit of a potential health scare last fall, so I’m really glad she’s doing well, too. (We adopted her from someone who abandoned her, so we really have no idea how old she is, but definitely older than 10 by now...)
