I’m quite late to this post, but I just wanted to pop in and thank both Drew and you for this take on the song, because I’m friends with the guy who wrote it.

I met him at Comic Con in San Diego, over 15 years ago, around when I was midway through high school! I used to make comics myself back then, and that also used to be a really fun convention to go to, where magical, random encounters could happen. Case in point...

I’m so sorry you’re in a place that doesn’t currently have one! So many book deserts have popped up since B&N and Amazon decimated so much of the indie market and it breaks my heart. Everyone should have (at least) one great little bookstore nearby!

Aw, thank you! Fortunately, a go bag in my case isn’t really necessary — not like my days growing up in SD — as I live in a part of LA that never burns. Griffith Park up the hill sometimes does (like it did briefly yesterday), but my roommate has been in our building for 34 years, and never a fire to be had here.…

What a week. I haven’t been personally affected by any of it (yet), but I have friends from Thousand Oaks, and several who have been evacuated (or are on notice at any time) due to the fires. I live right near Griffith Park, and fortunately the little brush fire up there was contained yesterday... but today, the winds…

CA only owns 2% of its own forest land; the federal government (which, under the current hellfire administration, has slashed it with alarming cuts) owns over 60%. So... no, not really. Nice try, though.

ETA: Not two minutes ago, Angelina Jolie left, after spending about 20 minutes browsing and shopping for books with a couple of her sons. She is tinier than I would’ve guessed (that said, I’m a 6' tall giraffe), and alarmingly beautiful to look directly in the eye, holy cow.

How could I forget? Damn. Christopher Nolan is probably our most regular celeb at my current digs. He is super polite, always dressed very nicely, usually comes in with one or both of his kids, has GREAT taste in music (and really enjoys chatting about it), likes my Peter Gabriel lyric tattoo, and is generally just so…
