“I got to see the difference between the detention center and prisons, and there is no difference.”
“I got to see the difference between the detention center and prisons, and there is no difference.”
Ugh, no kidding. Chopra is such a complete hack, it’s unbearable.
Exactly. Amazon’s “You may also like...” is just a (sort of) slightly more finely tuned version of “Shoppers who bought this same item also bought...” Which, frankly, when it comes to books? Can be almost completely meaningless. Booksellers can’t be replaced by shitty algorithms, nor can community events, or even just…
They also contain far more positive ions than normally present in the atmosphere, which can be crazy-making for a lot of people. Domestic violence, assault, suicide, and homicide all tend to spike during Santa Anas.
I really do wish him the best with what is often a horrendous process. Many years ago, my mother was seriously injured on the huge General Atomics (defense contractor) campus — ironically thanks to the “safety strips” on the edges of staircases, which were peeling off! — and they then fired her while she was on…
I always found this fascinating, too! My father is a photographer (as am I), and he works exclusively with film and in print. I remember playing around with his Pantone color rings (which was their FULL range of colors, so it was crazy thick) as a kid, which he had around in his office for printing specifications. And…
Bookseller of 10 years here, who has worked at both chains and indies:
DevaCurl is the bomb! Works like nothing else ever has for my very thick, very curly (often quite moody, monstrous) hair.
Speaking as a lifelong CA resident, we definitely have Fire Season here (often exacerbated by Santa Ana winds, some of which are blowing as we speak, though not as badly as they were last night). Unfortunately, due to drought, followed by extra rain (not now, but earlier this year) basically growing a lot of extra…
only superseded in annoying plot points by several terrible songs crammed in to a negligible amount of time.
Same. That’s all I’ve got today, I’m afraid.
I usually do melt-in-your-mouth sugar cookies and crackling ginger snap cookies for the holidays.
It raises taxes for people making $30,000 per year and less
I’ve even occasionally seen “you guys” used for minna, which should really be translated to “everyone,” since that’s literally what it means, and it is odd.
Also, for all his Miyazaki fanboying, Lasseter’s company STILL hasn’t produced a female-lead non-princess film. (Inside Out is as close as they’ve gotten, and it barely focuses on Riley; it’s more about the emotions in her brain, only half of whom are female.) And Brave was a disaster, which in hindsight seems…
They did a full series of monthly Ghibli screenings this year, I think starting back in July? And they were excellent! (They would typically do one day showing the dub version, followed by the original sub the following evening. I always went for the latter, but for those with kids it’s nice to have both options.)…
I’m very glad that this is the case. I’ve really enjoyed the monthly GKids screenings of Ghibli films that have been going on this summer/fall.
Agreed, very strongly. Particularly given that the past decade for Pixar has been quite a fall off a previously high cliff. (I’d say 2010 was the year of their last truly great release.) Disney Animation has fared far better in that same period, but neither can touch Ghibli, for me.
Cake has been consistently letting me down since I was still a single-digit-aged thing wondering what the fuss was about at other kids’ birthday parties.
