Nope, but thanks for assuming I’m either dirty or stupid. Went through 4 60GB phat units before finally caving and “upgrading” via the Sony refurb program to a 120GB slim and have had no problems since. The original PS3s had a historically high fail rate, hence the need for an “upgrade” program.

I am in the US and when I order PSN cards on Amazon, they do just provide the code. I have to enter my full credit card number every time on these purchases as an added safety measure, but the code is literally just displayed right on the screen after the purchase is verified.
