It sounds like this movie is offensive, and that’s a problem. But, when you start complaining about movies “catering to the lowest common demoninator,” you’re veering into snobbery and classism. People have different tastes, and not every movie has to be Citizen Kane.

Respectfully, I disagree.

Bike components are mass produced by just a few companies (Shimano, SRAM and Campy) and are then sold to bike manufacturers, meaning these components do enjoy economies of scale. But, frames are built by hand in much smaller quantities.

“Every movie is designed specifically to cost less than the mouth breathers who will still pay to see it so that both him and the studio came out on top.”

Yeah, it seems like Tom might be cherry picking his data, here.

A toothpick through the middle keeps things intact and permits you to eat the burger whole, as God intended.

“Thou shalt not deliver a money shot, for creampies pleaseth the Lord.”

Carrie. Not Carrier. (It was a typo, not a wacky Deadspin pun. I promise.)

This woman’s response was awesome.

That’s a good point. One of the things I like about soccer is how quick a game is.

Why doesn’t soccer use two refs when it’s got a comparatively giant playing field (linesman don’t count)?

There are certain constraints for table and cigar size, and in your example you’ve got a too-big cigar (how often do you hear that?!?) which may be why you’re hung up.

No, I wasn’t envisioning a rectangle. It’s possible to create a square (actually, an infinite number of squares) that leave a strip that fits an even number of cigars, and an infinite number of squares that fit an odd number of cigars. This is especially easy since the proportions of the cigar are unrestrained.

I agree. I was illustrating why another commenter’s proposed solution (which ignored rotational symmetry) didn’t hold up.

Oh, for sure. I was raised in a very liberal family, and thought of myself as an open-minded/non-judgmental kid, but I still said things and made jokes back then that would make me cringe, today. Most of us were little shits in our teens. I certainly was. It’s part of the growth process and it hopefully never stops.

Your humility and restraint are inspiring.

It’s good to see that things have progressed, but let’s face it, we liberals are patting ourselves on the back harder than ever.

Even assuming that cigars may not overhang, the issue still stands. See my comment from 2:31PM in this same thread (which includes a picture).

If Phylicia Rashad was an enabler and a rape-apologist, how does that make her a victim?

I agree. I was illustrating the flaw in GuyIncognito’s close-but-not-quite explanation.
