“To say Serena has benefitted tremendously from lack of competition is trying to take away from a phenomenal athlete.”

This is great satire. Thanks for the chuckle.
That’s funny that you mention that. I just discovered Brian Phillips two weeks ago (he’s great) and his Federer piece was my introduction to him.
His semifinal match against Murray was a thing of beauty. Too bad he couldn’t conjure that, today.
Seth McFarlane?
At least these are objective measures, although I don’t think many people would judge a player’s Grand Slam success based on QF and Semi appearances. Seems like Nadal’s lead in Wins and Finals appearances trumps these, no?
Me too. I thought, “press conference and spousal murder? Busy day.”
It’s true. Serena’s a force of nature, but she has benefitted tremendously from the era in which she plays. Federer did get to cruise a bit in the early part of his career, but since 2007/2008, it’s gotten awfully crowded at the top.
Those are the charts I consulted, too. They show:
By what measure is Djokovic’s GS career more impressive?
I don’t know. If he seemed despondent about his own loss of ability, I think that would be very sad. But, I find something inspiring about the grace with which he handles it. He knows he’s no longer in his prime, but he still seems to enjoy what he does and accepts that this is who he is, now.
If you asked them, they’d say it’s to expedite the boarding process. I’m sure that’s partially true. But, it’s also a great revenue stream, especially since they charge $50 to carry your bag on if you don’t pre-pay; something that happens quite a bit since people often assume carry on will be free.
Whoa.
Ah, gotcha. Yup, they still play Mixed Doubles.
All true (except for the part about the top women being able to hang with the guys in tennis), but none of that diminishes her dominance. On the contrary, the things you described are part of the reason she’s able to be so dominant.
Those are all actual quotes. He also wastes some ink explaining why his morbid obesity is totally cool.
Boy, did you miss the point.
I was up at 7am to root for Serena. I like her and respect her, tremendously. However, there are many examples of her engaging in behavior that’s not merely “emotional,” but pretty shitty.
Federer certainly is more beloved than Serena, and a lot of that is due to racism and sexism.
Cute. Pithy. But dumb.
