I have zero opinion on what she is doing for trans rights. As you say, it’s not my fight.

She didn’t advance jack shit. Social justice advocates just latched onto her, and everybody just willfully forgot that she is a terrible person

Yep. Honestly in that clip, she sounded like my dad, who is about her age and is also relatively privileged. (Though obviously not on Jenner’s scale.) The difference is, nobody expects my dad to be progressive on gender issues.

I think trans women have a critical part in the discussion of women’s rights and feminism because they come from a unique perspective and face a separate level of almost openly tolerated discrimination that I, as a cis Black woman, can’t imagine facing.

You nailed it - she isn’t/won’t be affected by a single policy, cultural mentality or tradition that women are.

I don’t think it’s a question of intelligence; I think it’s one of caring. She will never need an abortion or social welfare benefits, so in her mind those issues are unimportant. It’s like when I hear about how tax plans affect people with a lot of investment income — that’s not me and it’s never going to be me, so

Um, well I think that a white person checking or understanding white privilege and educating other white folks about it is the first step to doing something. You’re not going to act/.or be part of the solution if you don’t think there is anything to change/a problem to solve in the first place. Enlightenment and

My goodness, she really can’t say a single thing without being criticized. This is a perfectly reasonable answer.

The Crime Bill that Senator Bernie Sanders signed?

What should she do? In concrete terms, what is the right thing for her to do in your opinion?

Was at the game today and when Allen was shooting a FT at our end, with Plumlee boxing out, my girlfriend ask why all the Duke white players look like failed abortions.

You forgot Greg Paulus.

He is also, as it turns out, really damn good.

I am aware of those polls. The Republicans haven’t ripped him to shreds yet. I think most people don’t pay close attention to primary contests and they have no idea what Sanders believes. I have no faith that general election voters will give a Socialist agnostic Jew the time of day.

Actually, this gets me thinking. So what if you vote for Obama because he’s black, or for Clinton because she’s a woman? The idea that “identity politics” only applies to non-white or non-male candidates needs to be put to rest. How many racist white guys do you think are out there who would vote for a less-qualified

True. I guess. But the president has 3 jobs:
1) Int’l diplomacy (he’s largely silent on and shows little real interest in)
2) Appts to SCOTUS (besides “overturning Citizen’s United”, we don’t know how he wants to shape the bench...of course, we don’t know that for Hillary either. That I blame on media)
3) Leveraging

“Not to defend Killer Mike”

I’ve spent the last few weeks feeling a little down and almost ashamed, thinking that the good lefty thing to do is support Sanders. And I do! I love him! I love his politics! I just happen to think that Hillary is better qualified, more temperamentally suited and more electable. AND the thought of a female president

Well, the candidate is aligning himself with those disgusting misogynistic comments. He said he agreed with Killer Mike.

The whole “controversy” is a tactic by the bernie campaign to take away the legitimacy of a woman’s vote. It’s disgusting, especially the Killer Mike uterus quote, but it’s a old tactic that seems to be working, because no one is calling him out for it. bernie is even outright defending those misogynistic comments.
