So what I’m hearing is that you’re a boring white guy.

You let the mask slip a bit here.

I agree, it has nothing to do with representation or whatever else you were ranting on about. The original post whined about the use of the phrase “boring white guy” and then took it WAY WAY BEYOND THAT and said that “making everything about race” was destroying society and art. Which is stupid bullshit. I don’t

You were triggered, its okay that’s the internet.

What a white perspective. Myles reviews a lot of shows most of them have a white male lead, because that’s what most shows have. Those guys haven’t all been boring white males. So give him some credit. don’t just get hurt.

He’s also a naive rube. Let’s not forget that. You know what the difference is between him, his father and Robb? Jon Snow had a witch to give him a mulligan. I’m fairly confident you could get him to cede all power by simply telling him “I’m a good guy. Let me try it for a while.” Sure he might start to get suspicious

Jon Snow is a) boring, b) white, and c) a dude. I see no problem describing him accurately.

Well said. A big difference is that all of those other shows worked hard to demonstrate how those characters had changed and what choices led them to become the men they ended up being.

It is almost inconceivable to complain of female representation in perhaps the richest show in this regard in human history.

And it is EXTREMELY socially and culturally damaging to have an increasingly influential group of people make EVERYTHING about gender and race because it means every single work of art gets filtered through this one ideology...

You write as though I’ve written off the show as anti-feminist (I didn’t say this) or as racist (I didn’t say that either), as opposed to simply denoting the way story choices echo longstanding criticisms of the show. It is disingenuous to dismiss identity-based criticism as a claim that art loses any and all value

And so my best advice to you is to not see commentary on this topic as an attack on whiteness, because that is a fundamental misunderstanding of why we discuss issues of representation.

With that said, yes, John Snow is boring as hell.

As always, I am hesitant to reply to comments with the knowledge that the Kinja system elevates Staff contributions and thus the comments themselves, but I want to address this since I’ve seen it pop up a couple of times in my notifications.

But, see, you are mostly describing the wedding. I am not changing my last name. I am not having my father walk me down the aisle; if it were going to be anyone, it’d be my mom. White dress? Negotiable. It might be a soft color, but I am not going to do some stark white dress. The jig is up.

I get that, but it isn’t as if any property that was left to me by my father will now go to my husband. Laws surrounding marriage have changed, so I don’t think it’s fair to make the statement that she is making.

Is she fucking serious? If you are married, then you cannot be a feminist? What absolute horseshit. People listen to this woman?

I think I’m just in a really bad mood today but this interview pissed me off. “Oh no, feminism is too mainstream so I need to call myself something else! People who call themselves feminists who don’t work to solve every single problem in the fucking world and also overthrow capitalism every minute of their lives

We can talk about that, but let’s not pretend that suddenly capitalism is an issue when a Black woman is rich and famous as fuck. Let’s not criticize every famous Black woman who says she’s a feminist while praising famous white women for the bare minimum. And let’s not dismiss Beyonce for being sexual while praising

As noted, the PRESIDENT was aware of this thing and it was at least thought relevant enough to provide him with a copy. Even if it turns out to be 100% fabricated, its release is still newsworthy.
