I was avoiding commenting on this thread up to this point, but she's not the only one who found your first statement... problematic, to say the least.

Huh. All the Asian immigrants I know make a distinction between born in the US and born in Asia; ie first gen exclusively refers to people NOT born here, and then the number goes up with each successive generation. I'm first gen, but my sister and brother are considered second gen.

If she was born here, that makes her second gen.

Yes. I'm an Asian living in the US, get similar shit a lot, and do consider it to be racist and demeaning. Harassment? Mostly not, though sometimes it does cross the line into harassment.

Yes, actually. Kink.com being a good example.

Hmmm yeah, I married that asshole.

I really don't know how I feel about this one... on the one hand, that totally sucks, but on the other hand, I can imagine neither my husband's family having my parents over nor my parents having his over for any sort of major holiday.

1. The relative knowledge of the science to other fields is very relevant, because you chose to attack science specifically.

Yep.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough.

Wow, a lot of thinly veiled insults here.

Compared to other professions? Seriously?

Yeah, but it sucks to have my profession singled out as "not culturally aware". And very few do end up as evo-psych bastards. Real scientists tend to shun them.

Hey, don't group us in with these evo-pysch bastards.

Whoaaahhh, sounds more like rural than suburbs @_@

Not to mention working out.

I think it's more of a "time" factor than a price factor. If you work all day, come home dead tired, you don't have the energy to cook. And if they value that extra half hour of rest time more than eating healthy, that's their life and choice. It's a hard choice to make.

She's also Asian.

Hrmm, you might have to supplement the curriculum yourself. I can't think of any school that might be focused on the arts and folklore, except maaaybe an arts school...

No matter how rich I get, I will never buy a huge house. My parents have 3 kids, a 3bdrm/3bath house in suburbia, and we don't use some of the rooms. It's a bitch to clean a house even of that size, so mansion? No thanks.
