I’m not the one getting bent out of shape because of something a faceless someone said over the internet.
What do you mean, it wasn't made on drugs?
Yeah, I’m not surprised at all. News isn’t about providing the public with information anymore; it’s about coloring that information in such a way that advances the outlet’s point of view. Conservative outlets want liberal outlets to go away; liberal outlets want conservative outlets to go away; and as long as we as…
Yeah. Up until the 1900s, maybe. There was a softening of attitudes toward all things occult in the late 1800/early 1900s, with Americans embracing things like ouija boards and blending science with spirituality. What with Muggleborn wizards entering the community, it seems they'd relay changing attitudes to their…
Oh! No! There goes my whole point, utterly DESTROYED by the “it’s just fiction, none of it is real” defense!
You know, one thing that’s bugged me about this series so far is her unwillingness to let American wizards be just as good as, if not better than, Britain at something. She specifies that Ollivander is the best wandmaker in the world, but America had some good wandmakers, too. They just weren’t as good as Ollivander.
Great Noodly One. I’m no longer going to dignify your word vomit with actual responses.
You don’t see British people complaining that she got it all wrong. Furthermore, why the FUCK are you defending blatant inaccuracy and cultural appropriation?
But she’s dealing with a real country, with a real culture and real people. She was respectful toward her own culture when she designed the British magic system, so I don’t see why she can’t do the same for Americans.
When I first heard she was going to branch out to America for her next project, I assumed she had consulted with multiple Americans and traveled to the cities she planned to showcase, to make sure she’d gotten an authentic feel for the country’s culture. Now I’m just wishing she had. American culture is so much more…
I’m with you on that one. Even if you choose to ignore the cultural appropriation (which isn’t something you should do, but hypothetically speaking) she still screwed up a LOT of American history. No mention of a wizards’ counterpart to the American Revolution? The entire country being under more restrictions because…
