“Watching the character filling the Luke Skywalker role in J.J. Abrams’ affectionate retracing of A New Hope catch Luke’s lightsaber as it flew past the guy with Skywalker blood and into her hand—her hand—was something else.”

A criminal oversight. That show was ahead of its time.
It seems like I might be the odd one out, but David winning just seems like... such an odd result for this season. I get why Steph couldn’t take the crown after this episode (agreed that the edit was hard to watch and I adore her as an everywoman) but he and Alice were pretty close this episode, and she was so much…
Yup. Bojack is one of a few pieces of evidence that most streaming shows don’t benefit from doing the whole “our season is a formless 12-hour movie” thing.
It had some stand-out episodes worth rewatching but yeah... I just didn’t buy him becoming violent near the end, which seemed like the mandatory dark episode.
Yes, it was silly not to realize that ratings for this show will surge because some liberals think Sean Spicer shouldn’t be on it.
The right will ALWAYS be outraged. It’s fine for people to push back against desperate white-washing of Trump toadies.
Yup — episodes of Glow always have focus and structure. Too many streaming shows end up being a formless 12-hour movie.
Good for Lewinsky for getting paid, but I cannot imagine spending more of my life on a subject as over-covered as this scandal. (That Katrina season that was proposed at one point, though...)
Myles, thanks for these reviews — if you ever put them together somewhere I’d totally buy an ebook or whatever.
This sounds amazing. Thank you!
Yes! This show has mostly had excellent villains (Vee is one for the ages, even the sisters last year had electric moments) but oh man was there nothing interesting about watching Baddison, ever.
He’s right — the strain of continuing to incorporate Logan was visible.
+1. I’m of the opinion that season 6 was within throwing distance of being as strong as the first four, but oh man she made parts hard to enjoy.
Gatekeeping is bad, but it seems valid to critique the vocal minority who are insisting that if the show doesn’t include the ship between Veronica and her high school boyfriend, it’s a total abomination... or something.
I feel cheated that I spent 15 years invested in a title character who is doing everything she can to avoid being and doing better, and that a side character who organically developed into a real hero got fridged.
Mostly agree with this. There’s no wrong way to watch the show, but the “angry fan” thing going on seems to mostly be people who were really invested in Logan and Veronica and... I’m not sure the show was ever able to grow Logan into an interesting adult or companion for Veronica.
+1. This was on par with the first couple of years, worked on its own terms, and even feels necessary by the time everything clicks into place in the end.
These reviews (like the season itself) are excellent. Thanks for reminding us about who some of the old characters cameo-ing are and book connections... it’s been a long time.
Yup. If this turns into a year-round version of the various holiday shapes, I’m down.
