Today in B-movie superhero time traveling shenanigans:
Interesting and well written and researched article, great job!
It would be nice to have more of those around here, I feel like just a year ago they were very common on the site but they are becoming increasingly rarer
Don't forget the crocodile drug
I recently stumbled upon an article that showcased several shows were the reviews were vastly different at the beginning of the season then at the end. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that almost only the initial reviews count on most review sites, on Rotten Tomatoes for example I never saw a show change it's score as…
I never said cultural appropriation doesn't exist, I just said that the expression is often misused and gets thrown around way too much. Blackface is obviously problematic because of the history of cultural appropriation through the minstrel shows, it clearly oppressed a less powerful community. Ryan Gosling playing…
None of this hate really makes sense, in eastern europe and russia for example there are quite a lot of neo-nazis even if they fought the nazis and were considered inferior by them, people just need some kind of outlet for their hate apparently, it's sad.
Eh, it sounds to me like there is no issue, it's just modern US PC crap. " Oh no, a rich white guy likes and adopts chinese culture, those poor defenseless asians are being robbed of their culture, we morally superior americans have to protect them!"
For me the problem is that most reviews don't really bother saying that the are only reviewing the show based on a few episodes, this article for example just had a small disclaimer "Six episodes watched for review" at the end and that's it.
Also, major sites like rottentomatoes or metacritic then give a score for…
Agreed, him having a different origin could certainly work and mix things up and make it more interesting, so it's a valid complaint from a storytelling perspective. However, making it seem like it's a serious social issue is ridiculous
Did they actually reveal that or are you just speculating..?
Yep, special episodes with only one or 2 characters and not the whole TV crew are often very memorably and also very important in giving those characters some ore serious depth that will resonate for the whole show even if the story in itself isn't all that important. Agents of SHIELD did exactly that with 4722 hours…
Never saw Lost but I get what you mean. As far as 20+ hour episode long seasons goes I would also say that Supernatural really is quite good in that respect, especially the earlier seasons had a great balance
I totally understand your gripe, I am also annoyed when a show just feels like a huge story randomly split in which no single episode has that much weight. At the same time though, I really can't watch TV shows that don't have an overarching story, stuff like the crime procedurals where every week is another story is…
Yeah, I agree, Daredevil or Jessica Jones could have benefited from one or two "case of the week" episodes, with a one-shot mystery that ties into the overarching plot. To be fair, DD S2 kind of did that with the trial of the Punisher, I liked that we saw them doing their lawyer job for once. Also agreed about that…
That's just bullshit to me, no one "owns " one's culture, across all of history cultures advanced by being intertwined and therefore evolving into different cultures. The worst thing that can happen with "appropriation" is misrepresenting a foreign culture which is somewhat unfortunate but perfectly natural and…
I personally prefer it when they include several storyarcs over one single drawn out plot, but disjointed still feels like a valid complaint. Daredevil S2 stories didn't quite blend together all that well, the 1st arc with the Punisher was very well executed, but then towards the end they tried too many stories all at…
I'm talking about the fight in Luke's bar, imo it showcased LC in action way better than anything he got in his own series, how he effortlessly and kind of reluctantly disposes of fools was fantastic
Whaaat? I understand liking LC more then JJ, they are two different beasts, but I don't get the action complaint, I'm pretty sure the best Luke Cage fight is still the one he had in Jessica Jones
Eh, opinions are very divided on the ranking of the Netflix Marvel shows, which I guess makes sense since they have all been relatively different in tone and execution… but we all agree that their pacing over the course of 13 episodes sucks!
If they absolutely wanted to make yet another origin, why the hell would they focus on his return to the city? I don't know that much about IF, but I do know that him going back wasn't the important part, the important (and interesting!) part was his training and life in K'un-Lun
