You could buy an 04 STI for that - if I had a kid i’d give him 4k for a low mileage Impreza or Civic and then buy him a set of Craftsman tools for $200 and teach him how to maintain and work on a car. I started with a $700 dollar S10 and worked my way slowly into performance vehicles.
