Tenet’s sound mix was intentional, so he says, but I found Dunkirk’s mix to be fantastic. I suspect this is because there’s comparatively little dialogue in it. Nolan’s films are usually at their best when it’s about the image and sound all coming together to create mood. Then people start talking and the magic

ILM unionized in the late 90's. Then Lucas started moving stuff overseas to Singapore for The Clone Wars. Now, all their film work is done in a new Vancouver studio (which is notably NOT unionized and is the recipient of generous gvt. tax breaks).

Disney DOES own a VFX studio. In fact they own THE VFX studio: Industrial Light & Magic. Which USED to be fully unionized. And another reason why ILM opened up a Vancouver studio and moved just about ALL its film work there. The San Francisco studio is now home to ILMxLab, which work on Star Wars centric VR and AR

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”  --Douglas Adams

Sure. Pot CAN be medicine, and certainly having your meds mixed into your food is probably preferable than excusing yourself and smoking a joint. But if you’re going to a gourmet dinner featuring cannabis, it makes more sense (to me) to get stoned BEFORE you eat the really tasty food.

I really REALLY do not understand the point of a cannabis-infused MEAL. The whole thing with THC and food is that it stimulates your appetite, which makes your food taste subjectively BETTER.

An old supervisor of mine actually directed the 2006 *Eragon*. A lot of us felt a warm, mean-spirited tingle when it turned out to be a piece of shit.

Yet another example that the gig economy is just a bunch of rent-seekers reaping all the reward while shouldering none of the risk.

Things that will happen before Channing Tatum stars in a Gambit movie:

> things worked out pretty well the last time a star was attached to a superhero role for years and manifested his movie into existence through sheer willpower.

Living in NZ for a year, yeah.. ice blocks for popsicles.

I am just old enough that growing up in the near north burbs of Chicago, I called it ‘pop’, since my father (who grew up on the north side of the city proper) called it that.

House of 1000 Corpses at least looked like a MOVIE. It’s really shocking how much frame rate and color grading affect our perception of moving images.

I can see where he’s going with the production design and acting style, and those are all fine. Even quite good!

counterpoint: I was 14 in ‘82. I saw The Thing in the theaters. If I’d had a movie theater connection I ABSOLUTELY would have snagged a poster.

Did you take home cobbled dirtbikes into the forest preserve, hack your own trail off the paved bike trail to the river, build up a big dirt jump, and try to jump the bike over the edge of the river and grab the rope hanging from the tree branch?

‘Bird Box’ the movie was awful and bad. A good idea wasted.

Tiny Toons also did “Particle Man”.

It seems like when some WB exec FINALLY got around to reading *Flashpoint*, it finally occurred to them that they COULD, in fact, have a TV Flash AND a movie Flash and the self-selecting audience would not, in fact, be confused. Of course, this came AFTER 30+ years of awful decisions.
