Oh good, You finally have the resident jeep engineer doing off road vehicle reviews. This makes sense. He should be writing more of these (like maybe his take on that new 4xe Wrangler that’s built on a platform he helped work on). Just thinking out loud.
It used to be buyers paid for all those extra features, though. When ABS wasn’t a standard item, if you got a luxury car, you had to pay for the sensors and the control software.
Did a BMW 2002 (or the original 3-series) count as a luxury car VS the big American luxobarges of the time? It was positively spartan compared to the overstuffed, over-featured monsters on the road at the time. It was nice- everything you need nothing you don’t, but it wasn’t a cadillac.
Probably detective work instead of brute force. You know people, like, live in houses and stuff? They’re not always in cars?
Very much agreed. Especially over minor violations and minor warrants. The risk is much too high for the reward for everyone involved.
“outstanding warrant.”
They can also be charged
“ when every time they run you have to stop.”
S**t, just remembered that a friend’s girlfriend died after being hit by a speeding LAPD cop without his lights on in the 00's. They lied about it and tried to hide the blackbox too. Cops: The epitome of untrustworthy.
I’ve witnessed four chases (such is living in L.A., sigh...). Three resulted in crashes and injuries and *every one of them* was over a minor speeding ticket or outstanding warrant.
I’ve seen plenty of dangerous police pursuit video footage show up across the internet for years that came out of Chicago and Philadelphia. Including the infamous one where the cruiser decides “Fuck it” and just full on PITs the fleeing vehicle right into a row parked cars. So this doesn’t surprise me.
I’m still…
“Imagine shopping for a house and the realtor telling you the seller said you can’t see the house unless you agree to $100,000 over asking price. You’d walk.”
I will never stop being surprised by the amateur hour antics of IT departments that handle security for essential infrastructure. My home network has better security and more regular data backups than these companies, and the most crucial thing I do on my network is troll the BaT auction comments.
“When beggars and shoeshine boys, barbers and beauticians can tell you how to get rich it is time to remind yourself that there is no more dangerous illusion than the belief that one can get something for nothing.”
First Gear: One of the reasons Toyota is doing well is because they learned from previous natural disasters and stockpiled resources like chips. It might be a lesson for other companies - the company that pioneered just-in-time logistics planned ahead and stockpiled parts so it wouldn’t be at the mercy of just-in-time…
$23,000 Goosebux = $19,000 Flag-emblazoned TP.
In fairness - there are other costs that you didn’t include that I find significant. Noise being one of them. Few things are as obnoxious as loud exhaust. It’s not pollution in the traditional sense - but it’s still a real social cost. I can’t wait until we reach the end of the motorcycle infatuation with loud…
Most PM2.5 from cars is from the tires and roadway. I don’t think Jalop will let me post the link. But you can search for “non exhaust PM emissions from EVs” and find the article published a few years ago in Atomspheric Environment journal. If you read the article you’ll see that the authors were extra-conservative in…
“My used car is an appreciating asset!” is no less ridiculous than “My dog-based currency backed by the comedic stylings of an autistic billionaire is an appreciating asset!”
