You will get piled on, but I agree. I didn’t see anything shocking about her assessment that young women tend to more subservient to men. Like...that’s how it goes. It takes some time to even notice the sexism in our world. You have to work awhile before you feel it. Have a couple crap relationships before it clicks.

uggh. this was going on in the stone age when I was starting out - and sad to see it still is. Also, Hillary Clinton - best qualified candidate in any party, being treated like this because, well, there are a bunch of louder, stupider guys in the class who all think they are entitled to it.

I’m gonna get so much shit for saying this but studies like this only reinforce my belief that GloStein’s comments about Bernie supporters was a bit on-the-nose. Young women are taught to keep their voices pleasant (no fighting tones, no vocal fry); they internalize their under-representation by keeping their voices

“Something under the conscious is going on,” Grunspan said. “For 18 years, these [young men] have been socialized to have this bias.”

OMG this! My threshold for contributing to class is that I thoroughly understand the material AND have something substantial AND novel to add. With guys, they seem to believe they’re blessing the proceedings with the sound of their inane, uninformed fucking voices.

i’m sure these aren’t the same guys who talk over female colleagues 5 years later.

It’s cheaper to buy hair dye in bulk.

I can only speak to my experience obviously, but this shit doesn’t stop in undergrad. I was really good in law school. Like, really good. I studied my ass off and thrived on the socratic method so I always knocked answers out of the park. During the first semester, more than one female friend told me they overheard

After TAing more than a dozen classes, I wish I could say I was even a little bit surprised by this. Moderately prepared male students speak up more than the highest-achieving female students, and then other students assume they must know what they’re talking about or they wouldn’t volunteer so much. Exceptions

This applies 1000% in law school. I even got what we call “book awards” for having the highest grade in both of our writing classes, and I was still mansplained to every time we had a study group.

W’s speech read more like a 3rd grade report on What I Did During My Summer Vacation.

I know the Clinton / Sanders competition is a hot button topic around here, but I for one am pleased that Dem voters have two very qualified candidates to pick from. It seems highly revealing that the Republican contest is such a clown car cluster fuck. There really is no clear “winner,” just who is less of a total

Bush II and his bewildering 70-80% GOP approval rating.

There are times when I almost feel bad for Jeb!: he designed this whole “Shock and Awe” primary strategy specifically to clear the field early and avoid having to bring in Bush II and his bewildering 70-80% GOP approval rating. That would have set him up nicely to further distance himself from Bush II in the general

Eh, except for Paul Krugman. In general he’s fighting the good fight.

Shoutout to every single op-ed columnist for continuing to be horrible

Fun fact: If you spend money like a crazy person you’ll go broke. Even if you’re a successful recording artist.

Kanye is an asshole and will always be an asshole.

One of the issues is that (cis)men don’t have to use tampon or pads, so this is an additional cost that women have to deal with that men don’t.

Is it really that painful? Man, women are friggin heroes, for all the bodily shit they have to endure for the sake of propagating the species.
