Ooof. I’m sorry you had that experience with the elderly woman.
Ooof. I’m sorry you had that experience with the elderly woman.
I used to work with SIJS applicants. It was extremely hard work, in some cases made even more difficult because of ignorance from the family court judges who would stall the process even if the applicant was close to turning 21.
Thanks. I’m not sure if it will, because this is a pretty big issue as far as us going forward, but I appreciate what you’ve said here.
I think ultimately you’re right. I’m just hoping that with some therapy and with us currently living a few hours away from them, that he can really set up a healthy distance from them (hopefully both emotionally and physically).
Thank you for the advice. I’m really sorry that you went through all of that with your husband. His family sounds like they should go drink the ocean.
Yeah, up until now I haven’t felt like he understood where I was coming from, but after we almost broke up over the issue (I wrote about it in another response, and even that was edited down), he’s been a little better. I think he understands now that I don’t want to deal with them for the time being unless it’s…
You’ve really captured a lot of how hard it is to be in this sort of situation. I constantly find myself biting my tongue around my SO’s family, and it gets so hard sometimes.
I’ll definitely go browse there! It already seems helpful. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your response, and I’m so sorry about your husband’s death.
I’m not going to lie, we came close to breaking up a few months ago. He’d been in a very deep depression and I was trying (on my own, because his mom refused to accept that the medication he was on wasn’t working) to get him help. His mom came, picked him up, took him home. No doctor’s appointment, no plan to get him…
I’m in the grays, but genuine question. My SO’s family is awful. His father is a sexist and a racist. His mother is too, as well as having been physically and emotionally abusive. I just don’t know how to balance my love for him with how much I absolutely detest his parents (and sometimes even his siblings who jump on…
I’m in the grays, so I don’t know if anyone will see this, but I’ll type it out anyway.
Edith Layton was the first romance author whose work I read. I’ll forever be a fan.
Good point, but it may be that the driver is “judgement proof,” aka too poor to actually sue for wrongful death. Plus, if the family is suing in order to prevent drunk drivers from using this rental service, they pretty much have to go after the company itself.
