Also, and probably foremost, just different demands. Look at the US vs Europe VW Jetta/Passat; bigger, a bit decontented and MUCH cheaper US/Europe. Also production, don’t know about Civic but manufacturing cost in the US is a lot lower than Japan/Europe. On a side note, here in Sweden the US way with big cheap cars

First thought: this should have been the new NSX. Really, at least designwise. Same tech as now but with a design to invoke that bargain-supercar thing they are talking about instead of the current mega-generic Accent (or Civic really) of mid-engine sportcars.

Last gen S60 was a pre-Ford, big-Volvo sphere, product even as it was debuted after the takeover. Ford had some saying in the first XC90 but it was really more the S40/V50 and current 60- and 70-series that were developed under Ford.
