In Chicago we get a decent amount of snow but have great snow removal infrastructure. Then again, there are still stretches of time when the roads are quite treacherous. Snow can be unpredictable and even if you have two sets of wheels like me, changing from all-seasons to snow tires is not instantaneous.

Despite being a longtime auto enthusiast, I didn’t actually own a car myself until I was 30. I spent $1800 on a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 5-speed with 165k miles. In retrospect, there were serious red flags at the meeting with the seller which I ignored and/or failed to perceive. It ran reasonably well for a few months

Love to see it.

These are all vastly superior to the actual current designs. Good work, goddammit.

Headlights are a funny topic because I think there’s a huge gap in requirements between urban and rural. As a city dweller, my biggest issue is with headlights being too bright and aimed too high, blinding the fucking shit out of me. They’re just not necessary in that environment. They really just serve to mark your

Looks like a real pedestrian-killer.

The grill looks like a Ken doll’s crotch.

Great, now do the turn signals.

Honestly a guy who’s crashed 3 Mustangs should probably just take the bus for a while and cool off.

*if you already installed iOS13. I’ll stick with 12 for at least another month or so, thanks.

A few months ago there was a guy on 90/94 in Chicago with a blown front passenger side tire, chugging along at 5 under the limit in the second to left lane. This in and of itself would be annoying but unremarkable except that his tire was so damaged that it was eating his car from inside- bits of wheel well, fender,

As an electrical engineer who has worked on lithium ion batteries, chargers, and battery management, I’m with Apple on this one. Right to repair has many strong arguments but I think the battery one is the weakest. Safety is not just about battery handing, it’s more about internal battery management. The harder you

The stats show that the 60-69 yr old bracket is actually the safest. They have the lowest crash rate of anyone.

It’s gotta be full autonomy or nothing. You’re either fully concentrating on driving or you’re not. All the money going into this research would be far better spent on improving and expanding public transportation.

The first time in history that a moped has caused anyone to become visibly aroused.

Pfft. He can go over those speedbumps. He’s just not going fast enough.

Wait wait- “regenerative braking was deemed too expensive and heavy”? This does not make any sense. It’s literally just software to enable regenerative braking. I say this as someone who was part of a team that designed and built a motor controller for an electric go kart with regen braking.

I think you’re missing the point. The point, IMO, is to better understand human valuation of the risk inherent in piloting a vehicle. When an autonomous car kills someone (which has already happened) automakers, software engineers, etc will be made to answer for the outcome. I think this serves to demonstrate that

So the issue is, that people with bad credit are more likely to rely on their insurance policy”?

I’m not sure what’s peculiar about the failure when you consider that a) it’s an S-10 and thus is minimum 14 years old and b) lives in New England and thus is composed primarily of rust.
