Fuck yes. De Niro's best performance.

I used to be a lot tougher
The last few years though, I've been softening up. Maybe it's marriage making me a marshmallow, I dunno. The flashback in RATATOUILLE got to me, as did the emotionally wrenching climax to GONE BABY GONE. Kon Ichikawa's gotten me twice — the optimistic humanism present in the finales of both

I heard that stupid college song on Hot-97. It just sounded wrong sandwiched in between Jay-Z and Jadakiss, like if that noxious cover of "Boyz in the Hood" by Dynamite Hack was suddenly lent some mainstream legitimacy by a major hip-hop media outlet.

So, um…
Why the self-release? Why is this not on Def Jux? Was there some manner of falling out, or is Lif just flexing some independence? Inquiring minds wish to know.

I don't give a crap about this show
Never seen a single minute of it. But wow… is that a Therapy? reference in the title? 'Cause now I have "Turn" stuck in my head, which means at least HEROES has done me more good than harm.

THREE TOUGH GUYS is on DVD. Only as part of the "Grindhouse Experience" budget box, but it's out there. Great friggin' movie, by the by. Isaac Hayes makin' eggs on a hot plate! Lino Ventura as a bitch-slap-happy priest! Fred Williamson decked out in red and playing the bad guy! Gotta love it.

There's no AutoTune in grunge music
Goddamn, do I love me some P.O.S. I dig him even more than I dig AutoTune (yeah, I like the sound of AutoTuned vocals, T-Pain will save us all some day, fuck you non-believer). If you haven't picked up "Never Better" yet, here's your excuse. 'Been Afraid' in particular is

Pshaw.
PUNISHER: WAR ZONE was way more fun than QUANTUM OF BOREDOM. Ray Stevenson punches a dude's face in. How can you not love that. How.

But… but…
They're not going to stop showing movies about giant snakes and shit, are they? Michael Shanks needs to eat, goddammit!

As long as we're talkin' Kon, might as well bring up his magnum opus "Paranoia Agent." It's probably not the best gateway, but holy fuck is it ever awesome.

So the upshot of this is that I should watch that DVD of TOKYO GORE POLICE that I've had from Netflix since the start of the New Year. Got it.

Eh, an F gives this too much credit.
You can't fail if you aren't actually trying to achieve anything. Given the cast and director (seriously, how does Bartkowiak keep finding work?), I think it's clear that the producers saw this as a doomed project from the start. That said, I thought it had some fair amusement

Debaser: Have you seen any Dumont? If anyone in the world might conceivably make "The Age of Desire," it's him. In the words of Mike D'Angelo, sex is what people do in his films in lieu of stabbing each other with hunting knives.

Dunno why, but…
When I first read "Meat Train" back in high school, I always imagined Christopher Reeve in the lead. Not sure why, and not sure Bradley Cooper is an improvement. (I also envisioned Gary Oldman as Mahogany.)

PROM NIGHT numbers:

DEATH BED is maybe the greatest thing ever conceived by mortal man. I'm only half-joking.

Weinstein: a transparent cynic.
"Online social networking is a widespread phenomenon that interests me greatly," said Weinstein. "Combining it with a suspense thriller is a new and fresh way to explore this new trend."

What's really impressive is that Keaton maintains his stony face throughout the hand-job scene. So much funnier that way.

I'm the rare soul that generally prefers to stick with the theatrical version. If it's something I've already seen (i.e. ANCHORMAN or SUPERBAD), I might spring for the unrated just for a larf. But for the most part, I figure if it was good enough for big-screen exhibition, it's good enough for me. Especially when

The previous line seriously overestimates my regard for my country.
