You know, I have a Master's in English Lit, and teach English at the high school level. Frequently I have conversations with parents about how their students will let their work in my class slide so that they can focus on their math and science courses. My district even has a special Math/Science/ Technology school

I love how these shows about Bigfoot and aliens and ghosts and all that other hokum set themselves up every time with the premise "Will they uncover the truth" or something similar. Like if someone actually found a Yeti they would wait to announce it at the end of a documentary on animal planet at 9 on a Sunday.

And whenever Wolverine is not on the screen the other characters should constantly be asking "where's Wolverine?"

My response to the internet: Go watch Hollywoodland.

Boom, that's right, big guns time! Come on, Affleck is a good actor, a good director, and an award winning writer. Plus he has serious ties to the nerd community, can do action films, and sounded like a really good choice for this part. However the internet lost it's proverbial mind when this was announced. Let's at

Totally agree. I think some of his stories were as strong as a lot of the previous Doctors. People seem to forget that each version of the Doctor is always kind of a reaction to the Doctor before them. Doc 2 was young and goofy, contrasting Hartnell's old grump. 3 was sophisticated and dashing opposing 2's disheveled

What’s good about the show? How about the fact that we have two genuinely interesting leads, with interesting personalities and pretty good chemistry? We have a world with a great deal of potential, that I’ll admit has a few rough spots, but good lord, any fictional universe is going to have its flaws. We have a

Agreed on this, and the complaints about all the complaining. This seems to be the io9 model anymore. I stopped reading the Doctor Who reviews because they did the same things over and over again. I enjoy the hell out of Almost Human and it bums me out that instead of insightful commentary and connections, all I get

I just saw this, and rather than post a long a detailed rant, I'll sum it up like this: for every minute of this film I enjoyed, there were 4 I did not. 80% of this movie is talking or walking. Plus, we've seen this all before in LotR. Sorry Martin Freeman, you're better than this.

Movies like this make me look at the Syfy channel the same way that Obi-Wan looked at Anakin Skywalker.

I thought the special was great, and the Tom cameo at the end was wonderful too. I am really looking forward to the implications of this episode, including the fact that they had some time in the vault dedicated to looking at a picture of Susan. Could this mean we see a return? That would be really cool.

Agreed. I too felt she was just passive through much of the end, especially in regards to being with Peeta.

I’m actually a Catching Fire fan, but I think both books have major flaws. Catching Fire suffers from repeat syndrome, where the stakes have been raised, but the overall plot has not been heavily changed, and I could not help but feelings like a lot of it was just the same story being retold. Still, I enjoyed it as I

In America we say "crazy like a fox." It's basically a phrase used to describe someone who is acting in an unusual way in order to trick others into thinking they are crazy or stupid so they underestimate them. It's a bit like what Hamlet did, usually with the same kind of results...

I hated it in high school, and loved it in college. Had to read Rime of the Ancient Mariner before I really understood it.

Actually he did agree to come back if they let him do one last season and go out properly. They told him they would get back to him about it...and then yeah, we get this betrayal.

The worst Doctor? Them's ah fightin words round here!

Making this thing bullet proof is a good idea, because while I am not a violent man or a gun owner, if I had a gun and saw this thing tromping towards me in the woods I probably would open fire on it.

It's sad that I am at a point in my life where I read an amazing story like this about a stunning historical mystery, and my first thought is "They should totally do a Doctor Who about this!" The new season cannot start soon enough.

Wait, did I miss the Culture ships? That's a pretty big chunk of sci-fi to miss.
