The story mentions that some (CPS?) file lists the neighbors as the baby’s parents, who DO have a child abuse record.... so basically CPS thought they were taking the baby away from different people (?). And now the Jackson’s can’t prove THEY are the baby’s parents because they haven’t received the birth certificate.

The off-label use of semaglutide is “like medically sanctioned dieting,”

I suppose it is to TikTok’s credit for even trying to ban weight loss ads (even if unsuccessfully) YouTube is like wall-to-wall Noom bs and “loose 20lbs of toxic poop” commercials. Ditto for Facebook, but at least they let you tell them not to show you that garbage.

People are frying *donuts* in the wrong oil. So many recipes call for regular (liquid) veg. oil. It’s fine, fresh warm donuts are pretty great no matter what they’re fried in, but if you want a real Krispy K, bougie donut shop, or chain grocery bakery donut you’re going to need a solid vegetable shortening.

Peanut oil has more saturated fat than other liquid oils, which I thought would make it king: all the goodness of frying in solid fat with the convenience of a liquid. When I finally tried it last fall, it was....fine? Maybe I was expecting too much. The chicken was good. Was it any better than the store-brand canola

I'm still confused, if you're in the "rich/ 50% off" category, you can get $850 off a $1700 stove but only $425 off a $850 stove? If you're in the poor group anything under $850 is free and anything over is $850 off?

Yes we were taught in 6th-9th grade Home Ec (mid-late 90's) to rinse raw poultry before cooking.

That is more of a tech-bro market thing: the Elons and Joe Rogans convincing us that anyone can be a Steve Jobs or a Zuck if we hustle and grind enough.

I would speculate this is part of the changing world of digital media, “celebrity”, consumer habits, etc. Before the Instas and tiks and toks: movie stars and rock stars were automatically de facto Influncers. These days: we’re fine with them acting on TV, but if we want “lifestyle” advice: we’re going to a rando on

No, “sins of the father “ is probably right. Who do you think her rapist is? Most likely: Dad, Stepfather, mom’s boyfriend, uncle, et al.

It’s important that the press directly confront him about it, ideally they wouldn’t let him mumble and dodge out of it, but if he's not going to directly say "this is how the law is intended to work, and how it will work for the next child " or "eh I guess we should at least make a child incest exception " ...there's

Is this an extension of “pregnant people”? They don’t feel comfortable specifying "women/girls” , but "rape victims " is too general and "victims capable of pregnancy" isn't great English, so "pregnant rape victims " is less inelegant, but factually wrong.?

Contagion 2011: That movie sounds horrifying, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to watch it

“If red touches yella’, you’re a dead fella’, if red touches black, you’re OK jack” rhyme to identify coral snakes somehow got stored in my brain along with "leaves of three let them be, leaves of four eat some more "

If I’m a coward (and still have box of pre-strike Krispies) could I go part -chip- part- Rice Krispie?

Yes. Compared to her colleague Boebert, whom she was defending, Rep. Green is a class act: she finished high school, went to a top ranked University, has a business degree, all her kids have the same dad, etc.

I *think * they are different counts of “felony murder”, when someone dies from you committing a felony. They each committed 3 felonies (unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping , etc.) during which someone died (but the same person). 3 deadly crimes = 3 felony murder charges.

The (well informed) rumor is Ages 2-5 are supposed to be next, and are only a few weeks behind the 5-11. Maybe late December or January?

Grown-a woman here asking: do people eat the shell of pumpkin seeds? If you buy them as “pepitas” they come pre-shelled, green, and much larger than the kernel of the pumpkin seeds you roast from a Jack o’lantern (which are tiny, hence I’ve often eaten the whole thing)

I always figured it goes back to the freshness issue, holiday versions are more fresh. But maybe not?
