When I was three, I stuck my leg into the space next to a floor heater. I have seen pictures of the scabs on my leg, and heard the story often in my youth.

After moving from SoCal to NH, it took me years to realize that there just weren’t any common venomous critters. I now can pull weeds from my rock wall, barehanded, w/o a second thought. No Black Widows, no rattlers, no scorpions. Snake encounters are with garters and corn snakes, who bolt.

When I image my (in their thirties) daughters, they’re about 10 yo, but I’m not shocked by their ‘real’ age when I see ‘em in person.

My daughters NEVER peed when changing them. I kept waitin’ for it (even though the physiology broke in my favor, for that), having heard tales from all my parental friends w/boys.
