That’s right! She was an NPC in AC Unity. I have virtually interacted with her.

Really good anime series too.

Did you mean to reply to me or the OP? But thanks for getting me to google the Chevalier d’Éon. That’s an awesome story.

Pssss there was a prominent trans woman in the French Revolution.  Just because people didn't notice doesn't mean they haven't been around.  Serial killers were also only recognized first in the 1970s but they are as old as time itself.  Trans people have always been here.

Of course art can be dangerous, depending on the purpose of the art. Triumph of the Will played a significant role in the establishment of the Nazi party’s imagery, The Birth of a Nation revitalized the Ku Klux Klan, and The Turner Diaries has its fair share of devotees in the history of neo-Nazi terrorism.

First, you’re comparing some people’s delusion to a group of real people.

Psst, trans people have been around since the start of forever. You don’t have to care about it, just don’t be a transphobic bigot. Really that’s all we’re asking. Trans women are women and trans men are men. Makes it easy! Just treat them like the men and women they are and don’t be a bigot. Such a low bar to clear,

Transphobia is not reasonable. Interfering with the medical care of trans people is not reasonable. The over 100 anti-trans bills so far this year are not reasonable. It’s not a mild difference of opinion when you are actively being persecuted for what you are.

No one is forcing anyone to agree that art can be dangerous. I want people to agree that transphobia is bad, and that Netflix is not under any obligation to platform hate speech. That’s not a slippery slope, that’s baseline human decency.

God lord....You just won today’s “Most Disturbing Thing I Read On the Internet” and that’s saying something given I read an article about Tucker Carlson today, WITH A PICTURE OF HIM. OOF!

I’m sorry, I had no idea that the only entertainment that was worthwhile is stuff that has nothing serious in it at all. I guess that rules out mysteries, dramas, action movies, and basically anything that isn’t a nonstop laff riot.

The Capitol protesters that stick explicitly to First Amendment defenses generally get off scot free because of that opinion. Meanwhile, Germans regulate the shit out of fascist speech, and yet feel no less free.

We all live on slippery slopes. The question is which is the more slippery slope? I’d argue “all speech is

I was on the AV Club in ye olden times. You are not what was great about it. I laughed out loud, a lot, during Gadby’s specials. You can have a comedy special that both makes you laugh and makes you think. But Gadby making people uncomfortable by speaking about her personal trauma as a victim of misogyny and

The legitimacy of trans people IS being questioned, though, so what you think isn’t really relevant. The critical “discourse” is uniformly crap, and its underlying issue is not being discussed with good faith, and this Chappelle nonsense is going to make life actually more difficult for trans people. It already has.

The shitty state of The AV Club getting us rid of people like you is the greatest argument in favor of Jim Spanfeller’s management I’ve seen yet!

I think either your keyboard or your brain is broken.  It could be both; I’m not an expert in either.

You don’t seem quite ok.

I feel this says a lot more about you than it does about Gadsby and Nanette. Yikes, pal.

Reasonable minds should occupy themselves with something better to do than debate the legitimacy of trans people.

Great, Gadsby!
