People need to get over the fact that Tilly is an Ensign. She’s a main character, that’s why she’s XO. And hey, guess what, that’s totally fine! Sorry if you feel that’s not a good enough explanation, but that’s how Star Trek has always done it.

It’s a TV show for the present day, regardless of when it’s set. And navigating non-obvious gender choices is *always* going to require tactful communication, people aren’t psychics who automatically know exactly the right thing to say in all situations without being told.

I mean, given limited budgets, isn’t it kind of unsurprising that an indie film would have a lot of people wearing lots of hats?

I skimmed the trailer because of the mention of Sol’s family (ie, Asians) being curiously absent and holy crap yup, check out 2:06 and 2:16 in the trailer.

I look forward to the contrarian arguments that will swarm the comments section when stuff like this inevitably draw up along with a bunch of other idiots claiming these Indigenous organizations are calling for “Censorship!”.

Unfortunately, we have to “waste” our time. The best response to bad speech is more speech. When someone with a platform says stupid shit, you get a bunch of other people with platforms to drown out their stupid shit with sensible shit.

I don’t disagree exactly, but Michael’s prominence shows why the typical leader-centric focus of trek (and BSG, and Babylon 5, firefly, and the bits of stargate I’ve seen) was a solid formula.

Clearly Dino Ironbody thinks that the only way to live a moral life is through the buying of indulgences like a goddamn 15th Century nobleman.

To the extent that I understand anything that’s happening here, I feel like Lohan is not remotely the person that comes off the worst in this article.

Fun fact: If you draw a Venn diagram of “people who’ve ever shown up at someone’s house with a posse and beaten the shit out of them” and “people who’ve posted on an internet message board about showing up at someone’s house and beating the shit out of them,” you’ve almost drawn a train!

I get the sentiment here, but I think it’s more about the gall of a potential employer thinking it appropriate to be talking shit about an applicant *actively during their interview* like a Simon Cowell aside, regardless of if he got caught or not. And particularly the horrible optics of pitying their perceived

Yes, and racists never have black friends. Oh wait, maybe bigots can be judged by the offensive, stupid things they say.

No. You're gonna have to show your work here. Name me self-identified woke people who attempt comedy and fail. Otherwise your use of the word "accurate" is super duper ironic.

He openly made fun of trans people, then tried to cover his shady ass by saying woke people weren’t funny (John Oliver, Steven Colbert, Seth Meyers, Trever Noah and Smantha Bee would all like a word) and trans people have his permission to exist as long as he can make fun of them without anyone pointing out his humor

Have you ever looked at the rates of murder and violence against trans people? Now make a joke about it. Now tell me how much perspective I should have about it.

“Cancel culture,” to the extent that it exists, has been with us for as long as we’ve had a culture. It’s just that the list of things you can’t say in public without risking your career has moved from “I’m gay” and “I don’t think god exists” to racial slurs and rape jokes. And there are large swaths of the country

“Cancel culture” is, primarily, a name given by people who want to continue being shitty to those who make noise when someone is shitty.

Counterpoint: only Goldeneye was good, and that one *may* make the top 5 for the franchise.

Love The Old Guard!  Really psyched for a sequel, which is hopefully still happening.

When you get right down to it the Prequels are a good story told terribly and the Sequels (As a whole, I quite like TLJ.) are a terrible story told really well.
