King Kong had amazing craftsmanship in every single aspect except the three most important: writing, directing, and editing.

Better than season 5, but worse than every preceding season. Davos knows basically nothing about Jon, or even that resurrection is possible, but he demands that Melisandre revives him? Sansa declines to tell Jon about the Vale sending reinforcements for no good reason? Jon stupidly abandons the battle plan, getting…
What Did You Finish This Week?
(sorry Chum, I gotta run and wanted to post my mini-review)
But in the case of possession films the female has the opposite of agency. And the review was pointing out that possession films always have a female victim (the protagonists are generally the ones performing the exorcism). So I don’t think it was so much a slap at the horror genre in general as it was the tropes of…
I know we’re in the age of everyone being terrible online, but this one really bummed me out. Years ago, when I was a young aspiring writer, Rossio’s screenwriting site Wordplayer was my favorite place to go for advice and support. He always seemed like a good guy; in fact, I got into several dumb online arguments…
Poor reading skills, and a lack of originality. Quite the picture you paint.
And stop being the very douchebag manbaby I describe, by being butthurt that people DO like it. Grow the fuck up, in short.
I hated the movie’s ending tweak because Dr. Manhattan had been explicitly established as an American superpower; his suddenly turning on the entire planet wouldn’t bring everyone together, it would just make America the focus of the rest of the world’s rage and hatred. Exact opposite of the book.
I always wondered why Snyder thought that Earth would unite against Dr. Manhattan.
I think most people who defend the film’s ending don’t really get the context of the Cold War and the comic’s worldbuilding to understand why the Giant Squid Ending makes more sense.
Yeah, Snyder whiffed on two of the most key aspects of the Watchmen mythos (Rorshach and the ending).
I still think in hindsight that the Giant Squid ending to the comic is much better than what the movie cooked up. Mostly because it would make no sense for the people of earth to fight Dr. Manhatten when nothing can kill him. If anything they would just surrender to him.
As I’ve said many times here. Watchman is a very faithful adaption to a comic that Zack Snider clearly didn’t understand. You can’t take Alan Moore’s vision of loser superheroes and turn them into Matrix Kung-Fu masters during the fight scenes.
Not that this is the linguistic hill I really want to die on (e.g. by taking a grammatical knife to the neck), but with puts a knife to, it’s a threat— the knife is right there, hostage-style, but hasn’t cut yet— while takes a knife to implies the full action of putting the knife on the neck and cutting. Seems more…
At the Israel Film Festival? It's a good good theory.
Israel doooooesn’t really seem to have a problem with the global rise of facism and as a member of the diasphora it makes me really fucking sad. I can only assume that, if you’re going to a festival for Israeli films, you may well be in that corner as well.
Sometimes it’s better to just leave a classic alone.
Plus, they already did a follow-up in spirit with “Hang the DJ.”
Don’t have him play James Bond.
Something about seeing the different rabbit religions made me go “oh, this is like people with religions! Oh wait, Christianity’s some made up thing too?!” And then the snare made me go “oh, people into religion can also be blind and/or hypocrites.” Not the book’s fault, exactly.
I don’t know what is worse, the utterly traumatized little boy or the mother who has to cope with the fact that her child has utterly rejected her. The way they and far too many others have been treated is barbaric. Way to make America great again. Please vote Americans and get some sanity back into your country.
