which is what makes the movie so ballsy and so great. It’s a much needed self-reflection for the franchise.

I don’t think anyone is saying that “if you dislike TLJ, you’re a sexist”. More that “if you’re this passionately angry over the movie, there’s probably more going on there”.  And for a lot of these people, that thing is sexism.

I have a story to tell that might help explain why Kelly Marie Tran felt the need to leave IG. I am an aspiring comics artist and earlier this year I came across a YouTube channel called Comics Artist Pro Secrets which had a bunch of very helpful videos about the business, how to get a job and especially how to

Just reading this makes me wish the Matrix had scuttled the humans-as-batteries idea, and made the Matrix the result of the AIs being bound by rules that prevented them from physically harming humans, but not from imprisoning them in a fantasyland and destroying their minds.

It’s actually not the easiest thing in the world to hard-code Asimov’s first law. The level of AI needed for something like Bishop from Aliens to be real would actually make it very difficult to program it not to harm humans. But it’s easy for a writer to hand-wave the necessary programming to implement Asimov’s first

Notice that in all these Marvel et al movies, the bad guys are 1) from another dimension 2) aliens or 3) robots. This lets the heroes be able to kill lots of bad guys, without killing actual humans (because that’s bad).

It is used quite lot, but the general idea of many is that the AI gains sentience and decides wiping out humans is for the best. It’s the sentient part that nullifies any coding to protect human life.

Well, if they’re programmed to preserve life, and they determine that the current population is untenable in the long term, and they’re AIs who have to take the long view of things into consideration, the logical conclusion would be that to preserve human life they first need to destroy a whole lot of it, to get it

I would think an AI that hates humans would just create a big spaceship and leave. Plenty of asteroids to mine out there, no humans for millions of miles.

It’s not an equivalence. Men are not plagued nearly as much as women are as men have always been valued for other factors. Women today often still are not valued beyond their appearance and certainly in the past that was the case.

What a lot of MRA, PUA, anti-PC types miss is that toxic masculinity is harmful to men too, particularly young boys who are just finding themselves. And it’s harmful in ways they don’t even realize is a direct result of toxic masculinity (i.e. forcing men to repress emotions).

Gee, I wonder why fat women think that society has it out for them? (Reads comments section) Oh, right.

Don’t forget the epidemic of fragility among men. If even a single piece of media turns focus away from them, they pounce on it in the comments section like an MRA on a twitter thread started by a feminist.

For years women have been putting in very real work to address to address domestic violence. Laws have been enacted, shelters have been built. It’s still a problem, but progress is being made. Men suffering from domestic violence is a very real problem that needs to be seriously addressed. There are some men who are

I take your point that the idea that’s it’s a specifically male conspiracy against specifically women completely ignores the fact that men struggle with weight too (and seems to set up a needless battle of the sexes dynamic when this is not really about that).

Hooboy, this comment section turned into a shitshow very quickly.

God you’re a fucking idiot.

But what about the men?

There were no small characters on Deep Space Nine. Stop being a buzzkill. Rom, Leeta, and Martok were all wonderful.

Angry and vengeful, sure.
