Neither group is a monolith. That’s a very xenophobic way of thinking.
This seems like it might be a public political gesture with an ulterior motive. Because such a registry could also act as a handy database of potential critics to monitor. Idk, maybe I’m just thinking like a conspiracy theorist.
As a balletomane, it really is irritating.
Girls can certainly dance for fun or as a hobby— that’s a great thing! And it’s not like their technique needs to be perfect or approved by dance snobs for them to enjoy themselves. But a professional dance teacher with such a huge following really should be turning out better dancers.
All that money and her own TV show and she’s actually a pretty shitty dance teacher. Seriously, all the girls— including Maddie— have poor turnout, bland stage presence, and really no technique. People seem to praise Maddie’s dancing so much for the Sia videos, but her technique is really very sloppy.
I think they definitely fucked at some point.
This photoshoot just seems like a very convenient way to show off how skinny she is.
The AP did that with the Brangelina wedding, too. Talk about infotainment. Barf.
Most of the comments about this seem positive, but I can’t really get with it. I’m sick of public figures being praised for schilling for multi-national corporate luxury brands.
You are conflating human trafficking and sex work. They are not the same things.
Charlotte, this is such a fantastic essay, particularly in the climate of misinformation and ignorance concerning sex work. A few of my favorite points:
Decriminalize sex work. Don’t legalize and regulate it. Allowing a patriarchal, white, male-dominated government to regulate the sexuality of marginalized women is only going to harm sex workers more.
Yeah, his thesis about Edith Wharton was that she punished her heroines because she wasn’t attractive herself. (Read: not attractive according to Jonathan Franzen.) That’s pretty sexist, buddy!
That isn’t true. In this case, Miranda did cheat on Blake.
I nominate OMI, for “Cheerleader!”
The horrifying truth seems to be that Jackie fabricated her attack in order to garner sympathy from a guy she had a crush on. And then Sabrina Rubin Erdely was so thrilled to have such a perfect story that she agreed not to do any serious research as a journalist.
