My take is that the TDi engines don’t fail under 200,000 miles, so they are reliable enough to justify constantly fixing, or tolerating the failings of, the perpetually deteriorating pieces of shit in which they are housed.

TDI vs gas is an unfair comparison.

It needs a new motor because it’s a VW, and Wolfsburg clings to the nostalgic, air-cooled ideal of 100,000 km engine rebuilds.

But experience is valuable, and love is priceless.
