He was 21 and grew up homeschooled and indoctrinated. I’m with percysowner re: progressives needing to not be assholes when people see the light. It’s counterproductive. 

Yeah, it’s a crime the pain he caused, but he was a 21 year old indoctrinated into a belief system, writing about something he probably had almost no experience with.

If I were the Denali park rangers or even lived in Alaska I’d be demanding this deathtrap be hauled out of there. This woman is not the first person who’s died trying to reach it, and the state of Alaska has to shell out for all the search and rescue efforts. 

I think it is sad that a woman died. I also think that hikers or adventurers need to look at stories like that of McCandless as cautionary tales not challenges.
