Because it’s interesting to see how the final product evolved, especially when as much went wrong as it did.

Honestly, I’m pretty much there. RoS was an incredibly awful and disappointing movie that has diminished my overall enjoyment of the franchise, but it’s what exists and is out there and I dunno what I get from hearing about what someone else could have done but didn’t.
Part of it is the secrecy surrounding the scripts. If you never let anyone see the script, no one can say “this script is lousy.” There were probably like 3 guys in the entire corporation who ever saw the damn script, and they each only thought it was a good idea because the other 2 seemed to think so.
If I had to choose between the two, I’d choose Trevorrow every time. Jurrassic World may have been aggressively mediocre, but Trevorrow hasn’t done a ton of movies that big, and the possibility still exists that he could turn in something good. Abrams has a history of “blockbuster” movies, and he’s proven beyond a…
And the pirates are led by Hondo Ohnaka!
Honestly the different directors was a good idea. JJ did the boring thing but kicked it off, then TLJ was awesome and different, and duel of fates would have been a fascinating end.
I admit to a similar weariness when people lament an “as originally intended” version we never got. The number of proposed, speculated-about, aborted, or otherwise unmade movies outnumbers the actually made, actually viewable movies by a ratio approaching infinity.
The Force Awakens had ten years of crazed fan hype and anticipation behind it. Its box office shouldn’t be compared to the other films in the trilogy, because the expectation of a two billion dollar return is ridiculous.
To be fair, even though the script is arguably better than what we got, it would still be directed by the man who also directed The Book of Henry.
Not necessarily. A billion isn’t that much when films are concerned anymore and the film already cost nearly £300m to make. Combined with one of the largest marketing campaigns films get it’s probably made a fairly smallish profit compared to others.
Maybe Obi-Wan comes to realize that a theocratic-led military force isn’t the ideal way to hold a republic together.
I would love to see Star Wars do a remake of The Hidden Fortress!
I’m really curious what the unsubscription rate was after Mando wrapped up. They probably saw a pretty sharp drop.
Disney should have been more prepared considering they are one of the biggest companies in the world and netflix has already done the legwork for them.
Come on. Copying the structure of Kurosawa films for Star Wars? When have they ever done that?
I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
I mean, uh, I woulda set up a door where you can explore other dimensions, or time travel, or just generally go places and do things that aren’t perfect Good Place constructs. But death is good too, I guess?
If it’s simply about waiting for Ewan to be free, why essentially fire everyone and shut the whole thing down to be redone from the ground up?
I guess we just couldn’t... find a... needle...?
I heard the same rumors about the Watchmen show - that it was a disaster, no one was going to watch it, etc. I was wondering if they were pushing some kind of agenda
