Yeah, I was just talking about that with someone in a different comment thread - I'm sorry people are attacking you. I know indoor and outdoor people love their cats equally, they just have different priorities! Ultimately everyone is just trying to make their cats as happy as possible. I grew up on a farm and saw a

Thank you for being reasonable too! I think people get passionate about it because they can't stand the idea of their cat getting hurt, and just can't really get beyond that point to think about the bigger issues like cat quality of life. Whereas I pretty much think that when it comes down to debates like these,

That's totally your right and your choice - I was just pointing out that it's a big danger. A lot of people think cats will naturally avoid cars / roads, and that's just not true.

Sorry, my reply came off really bitchy for no reason. I genuinely hope your cat remains safe, and it sounds like he has developed a fear of the big road, probably because of all the noise and activity. That's really great and will probably help keep him safe. That's different than a natural instinct to avoid roads,

Scared of big loud machine is not the same thing as an instinct to avoid roads, though. If it was, why would any cat ever get hit by a car?

It's definitely an extreme example - the only reason I brought it up was because I actually read an article a while back about a National Zoo scientist who was arrested for deliberately poisoning cats in DC. It's a pretty amazing story, actually.

Nope. They don't. You're projecting an instinct onto your cat that it does not have. Maybe it's scared of cars, and that's great for you I guess, but a cat does not and cannot have a natural instinct to avoid cars. How would it? Cars are not a natural predator of cats, so they are not going to have an evolutionary

I think the main issue people are talking about are songbirds, which cats go after with a vengeance. People who like songbirds don't like cats, and in extreme cases that results in people hurting cats / turning them in to animal shelters for them to be put to sleep.

My mom likes the thrill of the chase. Now that my sister and I are adults and don't really need or want the "hot toy" of the year, she still goes out and stands in lines and braves the crowd to get the special Furby or Tickle Me Elmo or whatever, but she donates them to Toys For Tots.

There is no sound I like more than cats chattering at birds and squirrels!

Eeek! I don't think he would do that - he never really tries to go outside, he seems to be content to just sit there and sniff. He even gets tired of it after a while and hops down from the windowsill.

I always wanted to do this in my apartment in New York - apparently people build little enclosures right out of their high rise windows! I have screens on my windows, so I try to open them often and let my cat at least sniff the outdoors.

If you have a backyard, or even a little porch area, it can be great to let your cat outdoors for some supervised play time. Other than that...no no no no no no. Unless you want to severely shorten their lifespan. Outdoor cats face getting hit by cars (they do not have any instinct that tells them to avoid roads),

I have a full shelf full of specific shoes I was made to buy for bridesmaids dresses and have NO idea what to do with them, but like you, feel weird about getting rid of shoes I only wore once!

I have, with my boyfriend, and as he is an overweight broad shouldered man I get what you're saying. But I still don't think it's anywhere near on the same level as what women face.

I just posted a comment about this, but for me it's really because I love fashion but fashion doesn't love me. The vast majority of clothes I see in magazines are clothes that I'm not going to be able to wear, because I don't have the body type of a model. But shoes are an exception to that. I can (in a world where

What was the answer to the shoes question that Redbook gave? Because I can answer that really, really easily - in a world where so many clothes are made for a body type that the vast majority of women do not have, shopping for clothes is a misery. The things I want to wear never look good / fit me. In general, if I

To me this seems very similar to the difference in pay between women's sports and men's sports. Men's sports draw way more attention in general, but men also tend to make more money on things like endorsement deals, etc. I doubt all of Gisele's pay is from shoots and runway shows alone, the way that most male model's

Obviously it is not anywhere near the level of cable shows, but I find Scandal to be pretty explicit for a major network show, in a way that grosses me out rather than turns me on. Especially scenes with Huck - he is always licking people's stomachs. Barf.

I'd agree with this except - in certain industries, with certain people, having a "name brand" degree will open a lot of doors for you. I got a lot of interviews right out of college based largely on where I had gone to school.
