Your mentality is a huge part of the problem. I drive 20k miles a year and bike about 2k a year. I’m a lifetime car enthusiast and a road bike enthusiast for the past 10 years. I live just outside of DC and previously lived in the heart of the city for a few years, so I’ve seen it all in my car and on my bike.

I also think for a post-digital native generation Snow Crash is a much better novel as it has a much stronger understanding of technology and tech subcultures. Stephenson may have been intending to mock cyberpunk, but Snow Crash heavily influenced what cyberpunk turned into, and was itself still steeped in cyberpunk tropes.
