As an Uber driver I can say that these restrictions are a pain in the ass, and if you're taking an Uber to the airport you should be tipping them. Bring an Uber to somewhere that there isn't any possibility of a pickup (airport, deep suburbs, etc.) and you've just cost your driver some serious money.
