That’s technically possible, but I can’t see his team risking injury by playing him anywhere but as a corner outfielder, which would mean he’d have to be a great hitter, rather than just a good hitter, to make that worthwhile, because you’d be taking a good bat out of the game in order to keep him in.

Matt Holliday isn’t on the team anymore. They don’t have a DH.

Take note of who the Yankees’ DH right now is.

They don’t even need to be sure, just be able to convince an arbitrator.

Not a huge one, though. Not having a full-time DH gives you an extra roster spot for a pinch-hitter, and an Adam Lind type off your bench will result in not having a major disadvantage the first time the pitcher comes around, and having to use a pinch hitter a second time will only happen a few times a year. The

It would make sense that it wasn’t his call, since he said Taylor was starting a couple of days before he said Peterman was starting.

OK, but you were making that point in response to an analysis of if it’s financially rational for him to come while he’s subject to international signing limits, or wait two years, so I assumed you were making some kind of point about negotiating leverage, instead of a comment that didn’t relate to mine.

If he signs a contract with an MLB team, he cannot go back to Japan until he’s played 6 years in MLB, unless his MLB team releases him.

You don’t have to have a DH. You write Ohtani into the lineup in the games he starts. Once he leaves the game, you use pinch hitters for the pitcher, which will usually only be for one plate appearance, sometimes none. On days when he doesn’t start, he’s the DH.

MLB can void any extension if it seems to them it was negotiated prior to his initial signing, and likely will void any extension before next offseason.

For the AL team, they can opt to not use a DH the days he starts. It is expected that on his off days, he’ll DH (so he gets to rest while still hitting, and doesn’t get injured in the field).

Is he really throwing away an assured 9 figure deal?

    Nice.

    Nice.

A recent episode of the podcast “How Did This Get Made?” features Jason Mantzoukas repeatedly asking Alexa to order movies from Amazon, or to look up random things or add things to lists in order to troll listeners.

If your black friends tell you that you’re allowed to say it around them, then... no, you’re still not allowed to say it. Get over it.

The more you tell a story, the more the details change, and the more certain you are that the story you’re telling now is the exact truth. That’s just how brains work.

But the broad outlines are probably true.

I really love the passive feature on the Pixel 2, I don’t have to do anything to find out what song is playing other than look at my phone.

Not really - it was a mini controversy years ago when people found out that Takei wasn’t the one posting to his social media accounts all the time, he had a staff that shared stuff in his name, too.
