Piracy has always been a wildly-overstated/overhyped boogeyman whose primary utility is to give studios and execs plausible deniability for their own money-earning fuckups. There’s simply not enough people who care enough to pirate to seriously dent the positive earnings the industry keeps getting.

While Oscar typically sucks at choosing the “correct” Best Picture they pretty frequently do manage to nominate some exceptional ones. Or at least ones percieved to have that “exceptional” status surrounding them. 

Their biggest problem is they don’t make exceptional movies.
