It works very hard to be inclusive, especially her later works with Beka Cooper

Beauty had the best book heroine of all time. I will hear no argument on this. Also, with a name like Honor, I would choose to be called Beauty too. (This will always be my favorite book).
This is the content I come for.
Can we also talk about how pastels are everywhere right now and every artist is doing pink? I don’t see us talking about Ariana Grande’s bright pink sweaters and comparing her to Beyonce.
This is the news I come around for.
Thank you for writing this. I’ve always been fascinated by the Maynard/Salinger story, especially after I watched the Salinger documentary. While I have not read Maynard’s works, I do feel it’s unfortunate that she is pegged as someone who only writes about her relationship with Salinger—when at the end of the day,…
Agreed
But people don’ particularly like her or care for her? Don’t they eviscerate her by calling her an over-sharer? Isn’t there a certain amount of bravery that comes with continuing to tell your story after major criticism from the literary establishment?
She did get bullied, but it was more of a background thing, I guess, because she was so different. (I reread the book recently, and it’s mentioned briefly in the first few pages of the book because she comes home after a bad a day in school). They brought it to the forefront in the movie by making the bully her…
I enjoyed it. I just wish that they had left out the subplot with the girl next door and showed a regular day of school for Meg. She was so very intelligent and challenged authority in the books (refusing to do her math homework the way her teachers wanted because she knew easier shortcuts) that you don’t really see…
Agreed.
I had high hopes for this movie because Duvernay was a self-professed fan of the books, same with the screenwriters. I just wonder they chose to adapt it in the way they did, and it lost some of its magic in the process.
I wish I hadn’t reread the book prior to watching the movie, because I might have enjoyed it more. To be honest, this movie feels very, very Disney-fied with lots of pop music and sparkling CGI effects. You can make something aimed at children with challenging ideas of quantum science and math. I felt like with…
It was Grey Poupon Dijon too (the good kind).
I laughed because I think it’s making fun of people who overreact to these topics by putting it against the backdrop of the world. The world doesn’t end when sexual assault is brought up, even if people feel like it will. The point of the sketch to me is that we can have these conversations, but people turn them into…
I laughed at the Free Melania signs? I think it’s meant to be satirical.
I think part of it was the Inauguration, and how publicly miserable she appeared. I agree that we’re more likely to feel sorry for her because she’s a pretty white lady, but the narrative didn’t just suddenly appear. I agree that she’s fine, and this is ultimately her choice. And well, Ivanka, blech.
I feel like it counts as a bond, but what if someone actually falls in love and wants a “real marriage”? That would be a major concern for me.
Questions: Are they planning to stay platonic and are only marrying for financial benefits? By marrying each other, are they saying their platonic friend is above any other romantic cohabiting relationship they have in the future?
The UK, huh? I’m currently thinking Canada. The work visas don’t seem so bad.
