I've got to jump in here and pitch my two cents. Many of my students (four years worth of 8th grade girls) have read and enjoyed Twilight. Some have had the sense not to enjoy it all that much. Most of the fans take it to be the work of fiction it is, and recognize it as a largely escapist endeavor. Sure they squee

My partner James just finished Book 1. He felt a little meh about it, stating that it felt more written for the screen than for the page, but did read it rapidly straight to the end. This doesn't surprise me. Upon watching the trailer this morning, though, he was pumped. His prognosis is that the movie looks better

"The little bits they showed of Katniss's district was as gray and 1984 as I'd imagined." Totally agree. It's as if some people are mad the sun is still shining in District 12.

The book describes that a lot of North America has been swallowed up by sea level rise. Soooo… my guess is that pretty much Appalachia to the Rockies is above sea level.

Capitol is in the Rockies.

Yeah but everyone gets kind of dolled up for the reaping (what you saw in the first half of the trailer).

The beard was the highlight of the trailer, probably because it represented everything they got right about the Capital folk to me.
