Thanks, Zack, for the reviews on this. I really hope you’re back reviewing this next season.

As someone who has tried to read the books but never made it past about 100 pages of the first book, I’m quite enjoying the show and it’s definitely been growing on me. The pilot was a shocker and a real struggle to get through but it’s improved significantly since IMO although I didn’t think the finale was great in…
I see in a lot of the comments people talking about how the show is not good, and positing lots of reasons, but omitting the most obvious reason: the source material sucks.
This was so boring. 2 seconds of channeling in a confrontation that, in the book, was one of the best throwdowns I’ve read. No other Forsaken? Where’s Aginor? Balthamel? The Green Man?!? The Eye really is just a room? I kept waiting on the seal to open up and reveal the pure saidin or at least something cool to…
*mild spoiler for non book readers*
My problem with episode 8 is that I thought the battle was lackluster and they failed to set up season 2 properly. If you didn’t read the books you don’t know who the last people are and their significance. They would have been better off flashing forward to a particular event or major event that happens in season 2…
I haven’t read those books but I also haven’t read the books Game of Thrones was based on either and it made me appreciate how the latter build up it’s world compared to WOT. There was comparatively very little happening in Season 1 of GOT and it gave us the time to absorb the many characters, kingdoms, factions,…
My understanding of the Mat situation is that they had to stop filming due to COVID and during that time the actor decided to leave the show / not return for undisclosed reasons. The last few episodes that hadn’t yet been filmed then had to be rewritten to accommodate that. In fact, they likely had to change things…
WOT in general (the books, not the show) has big pacing issues. When people remember it fondly, they’re mostly remembering the middle-series heyday - books 4-6, maybe, or more charitably 3-8ish. EYOT, unfortunately... isn’t really very good. Not a lot happens, the characters aren’t very fleshed out, there’s a…
The best thing about this episode for me was that we spent enough time with Stradowski for me to start to like him a little better as Rand. He’s not going to be winning any awards, but he seems capable of playing the part, as long as he’s given the space to do so. Unfortunately, that comes as the expense of…
episode 7 was amazing and gave me a LOT of hope for episode 8. That intro fight was SO cool. Double with her only stabbing in the weakpoints of the armor, or where it would actually be vulnerable. (Compared to 8 where a character gets got right through the literal strongest point of his armor.) 8 felt so rushed and…
I actually respect the concept of the Man’s outfit, but felt it was another instance where the execution of the show crashed hard.
In democratizing the focus
I have no familiarity with the books and felt like I was seriously missing some information here. For example, my reading of the final scene was that the little beach girl had to be super evil or something that those nice boat channellers had to send a tsunami to ambush her.
Things I enjoyed about first season:
I had kind of a weird realization while watching this episode. On a personal level, this was the first time it really hit me that I think this show is really bad and I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Not just that, but I kind of regret that I suggested it before to a couple of friends to watch.
I love Yahiya Abdul Mateen II, but why didn’t Laurence Fishburne come back? (I love him, too)
I was secretly hoping Westworld wouldn't come back. Man fuck that season and to a lesser extent the previous season. Your not smart your obtuse.
I was so done with Westworld that I didn’t even finish the third season. I am surprised it’s even getting another. Someone will have to fill me in on what I missed.
In the books it’s an interesting thing that Rand is the dominant and primary POV for Books 1 and 2 (when he’s fully in denial over being the Dragon), effectively vanishes for Book 3 (when he’s no longer in denial but wants to 100% confirm it by seizing the Sword from the Stone) and then from Book 4 onwards, when he’s…
