Shit, looks like Kendall’s got some competition in terms of who headlines the next awkward Roy gala.

Yeah, it sucks for all of us that she didn’t win in 2016, but she should gracefully exit the stage at this point. I don’t see how she’s such a fascinating figure to have merited all of this post-candidacy attention. I know it’s a bit different since she’s a woman and was first lady, but nobody (I don’t think) would…
It’s kind of funny, since I’ve seen racist trolls on articles about Lewis’s death saying things like, “Now the district he represents in Baltimore can finally improve!” I couldn’t figure out what was going on with those comments, but now it makes sense--they don’t know the difference between John Lewis and Elijah…
It’s obviously not an original idea, but it bears repeating. Let’s just stop with Twitter. There are some good aspects of it, but the bad far outweighs the good. Not that the government should shut it down or anything, but I’d hope we can just decide to move past it as a society.
I got Youtube TV recently and found out that that allows me to watch the 2nd season of Cobra Kai. That show is the paradigmatic case of a show that is way better than it has a right to be. It’s still deeply silly and cheesy in the same enjoyable ways as the original. For example, people ask Daniel to pose for pictures…
I don’t know about Ozark. I liked the 1st season well enough as pandemic comfort food when nothing else was coming out, but I had to stop after the 2nd season. It feels too much like an AI’s attempt to recreate Breaking Bad—putting all of the ingredients in there, but lacking the skilled human’s knowledge of how to…
I really like the show overall, but it’s primarily because of the plot and interstellar politics. I think the acting generally is pretty meh, Anvar included. Not saying that he should get a pass if he were more talented, but if the rumors are substantiated, I don’t think it’ll be a drag on my enjoyment of the show to…
I know season 2 has its defenders, and it does legitimately have some great scenes, great acting, and the unintentional hilarity of “blue balls of the heart,” but I think it’s skippable. I think season 3 is pretty good and underrated because of the badness of season 2. Though I don’t have dementia (would I know if I…
“Did you see the setlist from Charlotte, dude? Absolutely sick Build the Wall segueing right into Lock Her Up! The lot scene was better in Tulsa, though.”
I was just thinking that too. While I still enjoyed them, I think the last couple seasons became a little bit too outlandish to try to stay slightly crazier than politics in the Trump era.
Idris Elba had it too, right? So, every movie could be some buddy film built around those two...and I’d be OK with that.
I’m not on Twitter, and I don’t deny that there is some good stuff on Twitter that I’ve seen re-posted here or on other social media. However, I think it’s clear at this point that the world would be better without Twitter.
This is a good topic. It’s so hard to know what the actual guidelines are, and the issue is obviously incredibly politicized now in unhelpful ways. Where I am (Pittsburgh), pretty much every store/restaurant requires people to wear masks to come in, and I’d say 99.9% of people are doing it (me included). Right now, I…
There was that Succession-inspired article in Politico (? maybe The Atlantic?) last fall that said that actually Don Jr. is considered the political heir apparent now. He was considered to lack in diligence and competence even by Trump standards, so he was the one without much to do at the start of all this, but it…
I think it was in the NYT where I was reading about alternative ways to handle a lot of the stuff that police do. Apparently, there’s research to show (unsurprisingly) that domestic violence cases, homeless people with mental heath issues, drug addicts, etc. are all better handled by psychologists or social workers.…
I do somewhat agree with the criticism that Don’s arc gets to be repetitive (same criticism has been made of Bojack), but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want the latter seasons of the show to not have been made. The characters and dialogue are so great that I probably would have watched if absolutely nothing was…
Was there ever coverage of Babylon Berlin on here? I’m almost done with season 3. I’m wasn’t that invested in the central police mystery, so I didn’t like it quite as much as seasons 1 and 2, but it’s still pretty great. Their portrayal of the gradual slide towards Nazism is fantastic, and I think it’s a pretty good…
I’m two episodes in, and while I’m not quite that high on it, but I do agree that the majority of reviews missed the mark. There are a few too many jokes that don’t land for me to give it a solid A, but it’s firmly in B+/A- territory so far.
I heard an interview with the director on NPR the other day. He said the film was also on the drive-in circuit and actually works well in that environment. I haven’t seen it, but given the description here and in that interview, it seems like it might be neat to see in that setting.
I also just finished God of War. It was a good game, but yeah, if it were a TV show, it’d be a mid-season table-setting episode where you get some character development and minor side plots but not the real plot fireworks. I was a bit surprised when the end credits rolled.
