It sure seems like Shiv is going to get screwed over. I do think Logan is sincere about wanting her to take over in theory, but he doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to relinquish an ounce of power in practice. Maybe she ends up running Connor’s presidential campaign.

Kim’s Convenience is a weird one for me. It’s this totally PG, traditional sitcom, which isn’t something I’d usually like, but after grudgingly assenting when my wife suggests we watch, I end up enjoying the hell out of it. Maybe the cast just is off the charts likable.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this. I think it has the potential to be a GoT-level fantasy hit. It’s basically GoT with less sex and moral ambiguity but with a matriarchal Jedi order.

I am also a secret candy bucket filler. I like people in my office thinking I’m aloof and unapproachable so that I don’t get too bogged in stupid chit chat while I’m there, but I also would feel shitty if I partake in the bounty of the candy bucket without contributing. So, if I see a bag of decent candy on sale while

I agree about Shiv staying away, especially when it’s arguably a bigger deal to be the campaign manager for someone with a good shot of becoming President.

It totally makes sense narratively that he wasn’t around much this episode, but we need more Cousin Greg in general. I’m sure in coming weeks Tom will tell him about his impending move up the ladder, and Greg will try to scheme to ride his coattails.

I wonder if it’s going to be Syd and Gabrielle who save the world by changing David’s childhood instead of Charles and David swaggering off into macho psychic battle with the Shadow Kings. I do, though, think Syd is missing the most obvious problem with David’s upbringing...that creepy Angriest Boy in the World doll.

This was my opinion after watching season 1 as well, so I never bothered with season 2. However, I am still a bit disappointed that they canceled it, because it continues the trend of Netflix canceling weirder, experimental, niche shows, in favor of what, exactly? I feel like Netflix wants to position itself as the

Poor Jason Mantzoukas never had a chance in a rap battle against the Hiphopopotamus.

I’ve been watching Dark on Netflix and will probably finish season 2 tonight. I’m bummed that the AV Club has no review or place to discuss. It’s definitely a convoluted show that would benefit from episode-by-episode recaps and dissection in the comments.

Yeah, I’m half way through season 2, and I was just looking around here for some reviews/a place to discuss the crazy shit that’s going down on the show. I’m surprised and disappointed that there isn’t at least a full season review here. There was enough Stranger Things hype (and I like Stranger Things too) that they

I said this last week too, but this season has redeemed and/or improved David’s characterization and arc from the end of last season. It’s very difficult for us humans to confront the fact that we all have done things (hopefully most don’t do as bad a thing as David) that might in fact make it so that we are not as

Agreed on both points. When Farouk initially had David trapped, he said that David was his son and seemed like he was about to reveal some “paternalistic” plan that had been in place all along...then David and Switch shoved him into that time portal.

I just hope they have an H. Jon Benjamin rendition of Danger Zone in the movie.

I feel like this season has done a much better job framing and explaining David’s transition to villain, or as someone put in last week, extremely damaged person who is likely to cause great harm to others.

I thought I remember reading before that this was the plan all along, but I’ll still be bummed to see it go. I’ve said before here that if The Wire is A+ Simon, The Deuce is maybe B+/A-, which is still better than most shows going.

Well said. This was one of my big problems with the Walking Dead once it got a couple seasons in. It seemed pretty unrealistic that there wouldn’t be more places where people had gotten together and formed pretty functional, peaceful communities instead of everyone supporting unstable, violent, autocratic weirdos like

I don’t know. My mind also immediately went to some of the current discourse surrounding immigration during that Mind Flayer monologue. “You let us in. You have to let us stay. Now we’re building things up to destroy you and your way of life.”—that’s pretty close to what some of the xenophobe red hatters think is

It seems a bit weird to me that they’re played like douchey jocks. I’ve never worked in journalism or known any journalist personally, but I always had the impression that they were more of the earnest, nerdy type, who gradually became of the cynical, world-weary type, rather than a bunch of braying former frat boys.

Yeah, I was just thinking that it’s odd that Finn Wolfhard seems to be the one amongst the kids breaking out the most in terms of getting other roles when it seems that Schnapp is the best actor.
