THIS! I have family, on my moms side, who used to do these very jobs. Most of the men worked in a chicken processing plant, though there were some out west who picked fruit (how does anyone think we got fruit before mass migration, especially back before the 70s when it was SUPER hard to get in?).

Also, a lot of these jobs used to pay not-so-bad. On my moms side, all the men worked in a chicken processing plant up until it closed in the 1980s. Conditions and wages went down when they realized they could hire undocumented immigrants to do the jobs for no money, and the undocumented can’t report OSHA violations…
