This is likely because more people have realized what Kickstarter has always been: a place to fund an idea, a place to support artists, and not a place where you pre-order or invest.

The Pathologic redux got funded (and is still active, go throw money at it) so I'm happy with the year so far.

It was only a matter of time really. Not long ago developers of these games were making people feel like by helping they were essentially part of the team and it's long term goals. Now developers are just going and asking for money while providing some sorta backer gift, and it just feels kinda soulless. That's why

Maybe it's time for a new business strategy?

Maybe the majority of games projects this year weren't very interesting?

how is having fun asking for attention?

Yes, people can derive fun from attention, but thats not what I'm suggesting.

People dress up to have fun.

For a lot of people it probably does. Some people enjoy it primarily because of the attention. But honestly, that's fine. Some people dress in revealing clothes for attention. Some dress up for sporting events for attention. Some people act for attention. The fact that it's done for attention doesn't in any way

some people just like to have some fun....

Not to mention how a lot of people dress up when going to sporting events.

Very few get money. And yeah, some will do it to get attention, but when you're in a convention with a lot of cosplayers, you're inherently getting less attention than if you wore the same costume in the general public.

I don't cosplay, but I respect it. It takes a lot of effort to make a good costume and to then go out as that character. Personally I just don't like to get into costume (I only did it as a kid for Halloween candy) and lack the skills to make them.

Why do artists paint or sculpt? Why do authors write? Why do composers... compose? Cosplayers do it for various reasons but for many I know (myself included), the joy lies in the process.

"Why do these nerds like to hang out dressed as cartoon characters?" they asked as they threw on their Spirit Halloween store outfits before heading out to the bar on Halloween.

If you think professional cosplayers with money and skills is cheating, then this is probably cheating in your definition.

Hopefully they also want time in federal prison... because guess what they're going to get.

Same reason people swat people. Because they are idiots.

I'll never understand this sort of prankish hacking. What a waste of apparently talented people risking jail time over a few moments of anonymous internet "fame."

how childish can these people be? thanks for ruining people's chill time you assholes.
